BUILDERS REMARKS: Nimble, swift and responsive accurately describe the Leopard 40'. Already a classic design and a benchmark for the next generation of cruising cats. Central winch pod, large transom, stepped hulls and great sailing performance are key words in describing this model. The Leopard 40's speed on the water and easy handling are its top features, earning it 'Boat of the Year 2005' from Cruising World and SAIL magazine. The designers of the Leopard 40’ , Morelli and Melvin, are best known for designing Steve Fossett’s PlayStation, the Gunboats and other large, record-breaking cats. The Leopard 40’ features a large cockpit with outside dining area protected by a functional hard-top bimini with mounted solar panels. The galley-up design incorporates a spacious saloon and aft facing galley. No steps up or down anywhere. The 3-cabin layout features an owner-dedicated starboard hull with master stateroom, office area and large head with separate stall shower forward. Sailing the Leopard 40’ is easy: both main and jib sheets lead to stoppers and self-tailing winches directly adjacent to the helm. There’s room for two on the bench-style helm seat, but you need only one to trim sails!

About The Designer
Melvin and Morelli, notables for design of "Playstation", created the Leopard 40' to be lighter and almost 2 feet longer (39'3 LOA) than the earlier Leopard 38' it replaced. Designed for speed and maneuverability plus a spacious interior while maintaining a high bridge deck clearance to minimize slap, and a clean hull profile with reduced drag and freeboard. The cockpit is designed for single handing with all sheets led to stoppers and winches at the helm. The comfortable helm seat easily fits two with excellent visibility over the coach roof and incorporates a sliding roof hatch with window for viewing the mainsail trim, extra head room when docking and the open-air feel of wind and sun when desired. A custom designed spray screen plus closing the cockpit roof hatch keeps the helmsman dry in almost all conditions. The cockpit flows directly in the saloon with one curb at the wide sliding door. This creates spacious seating and visibility for all to see forward and enjoy being included in the sailing experience. The salon has forward and side windows giving all a panoramic view when sailing or when at anchor. All Corian counter tops are sand colored and add a bright look to the galley and heads and compliments the tan upholstery. Complete window, hatch and portlight shades have been added for privacy when desired. Louver steps at the forward saloon windows provide sturdy access to the coach roof and the cockpit roof.
