DESCRIPTION

Kings’ Legend is a sloop-rigged Sparkman & Stephens Swan 65 – one of only four sloops existing.

Kings’ Legend sailed the Whitbread round the World Race in 1977/1978 and finished 2nd. She is very well known in sailing circles and has cruised and raced around the world.

Member of the Volvo Ocean Race Legends, winner of the Zeppelin trophy – for the best kept Sparkman and Stephens designed yacht, participant of the Nautor Swan Club.

A beautiful mix of old details and new design, she is a yacht made for cruising and racing. Accommodation with aft owner cabin offering a double and single berth and ensuite head & shower; two forward guest cabins, each with upper and lower bed (upper one can be transformed to a double depending on needs; V berth focsle forward. Guest head & shower area. Lovely saloon with one pilot berth on starboard.

She is fast and comfortable. 

Highlights include:

Topsides painted 2015; Teak deck 2013 with flush hatches; Electric winches; air-conditioning; mast new 2009; Good North sails.

She has been in current ownership since 1999. The last major refit was done in 2015, in preparation of the Sydney to Hobart Race. The owner and skipper chartered with her and kept her in high condition and latterly according to MCA rules. A new owner could carry on the charter business if wished.

From 1st November 2019 the asking price is reduced to 520,000 Euro. February / March 2020 the yacht was recommissioned, launched and sailed to the Canary islands.

Hull And Deck

Hull is in "single skin" construction using glass/aramid hybrid fibre reinforced polyester laminate with unidirectional fibres (giving excellent strength and fatigue properties).

Hull top sides painted “whisper grey” Awlgrip paint, in 2015.

The deck is of GRP sandwich construction with foam core, and teak laid.

Teak laid decking new 2013 (unique design), to the toe-rail and sealed with epoxy.

5 x flush fitting Rondal forward deck hatches, 2013. Main hatch over saloon is raised.

Ballast keel is a lead casting with antimony.

Rudder is foam filled GRP with high-tensile stainless-steel stock, with two roller bearings.

Mast stepped through deck onto new 10mm steel mast step.

Reinforced chain plates 2009.

Engine bed is GRP with steel reinforcements.

Cable & quadrant steering gear. Destroyer type steering wheel covered with elk-hide.

Emergency tiller system.

Upright part of the aluminium toe-rail was painted in black (May 2019).

Antifouling last done May 2019 in Malta.

Deck equipment and fittings:

Deck layout has been optimized over time for elegance and practical use whilst racing and cruising.

Sleeps 10 in 5 separate cabins.

Two similar twin cabins – with upper and lower beds (the two singles can be changed into one double bed, in both cabins).

Aft “owner cabin” with one double and one single bed.

One berth in the saloon, on starboard side.

All mattresses were renewed in 2012 & 2013.

Two heads - one aft en-suite to owner cabin. One located forward to port.

Both equipped with shower and electrical toilet.

The saloon still has the original handmade teak table and sofa, plus pilot berth on starboard.
