Manufacturer Provided Description
The Oyster 62, though totally updated from the keel upward, is an evolution of the Oyster design philosophy building on original concepts rather than replacing them. The same sense of proportion exists between performance and comfort, between aesthetic considerations and ergonomic musts, between structural efficiency and durability. The hull shape philosophy carries on from the 56, 53 and 66. A relatively long waterline and a sensibly proportioned beam-length ratio means a high speed potential, and a relatively voluminous hull capable of delivering a spectacular interior, further enhanced by Dick Young's efforts as the latest member of the design team. His scope in this respect is enhanced by the relatively generous freeboard, a feature employed by the other most recent Oysters to produce increased reserves of buoyancy for a drier ride and a wider range of stability. As ever, the goal with the Oyster 62 is to produce a well-balanced yacht, with light and responsive steering, but tram-like in terms of her directional stability. The underwater profile features a typical Humphreys keel, with its low centre of gravity and streamlined high-performance bulb configuration. The righting moment produced is significant for the size of this yacht, enabling the Oyster 62 to carry her large rig well. The careful mix of parameters will give her an easy efficiency throughout the wind range, through light to heavy, from smooth to rough.
