HILLYARD KETCH
Designed and built by Hillyards of Littlehampton in 1972 for Mr & Mrs P Reeves and kept on the Hamble River. The legendary David Hillyard needs little introduction as one of the most successful UK wooden boat-builders of the twentieth century, producing a staggering eight hundred boats from two-half tonners to large ocean-going schooners. The yard on the River Arun in Littlehampton, established in the 1920s was soon recognised for producing traditional, well-built family cruising yachts for a reasonable price.
The standard ‘Twelve Tonners’ were built in a reasonable number and feature a centre cockpit and aft double cabin. The design offers roomy accommodation for six people with weatherly sailing performance and classic styling and as such have, over the years completed numerous long ocean passages, although an ideal coastal cruising vessel.
Launched as APRIL LOVE for the first owners and registered in 1973. Captain D C Thomas bought the yacht in 1979, she was re-named and moved to a Chichester based mooring, her base for the past forty years. The current owners have maintained DIPHDA to a high standard and retained the original character and classic style whilst introducing modern navigation and equipment.
