Built in 1958 by Abeking & Rasmussen for Tom Watson Junior, Chairman of IBM, she has been helmed by notable figures including the Kennedy family, Grace Kelly, astronaut John Glenn, and Sir Anthony Eden.

This classic SAMARKAND is for sale through our brokerage. She underwent an extensive refit in 2000, where her interior was redesigned with quarter sawn Siberian ash. Her latest refit was in 2008.

Design and Features

S/Y SAMARKAND features classical beautiful sweeping lines, making her a true sailing machine of her day. She has spacious teak decks for relaxation and sunbathing, and a large cockpit safely surrounded by traditional style wood combing.

SAMARKAND exudes quality and craftsmanship. Built by the famous Abeking & Rasmussen yard in Germany for Tom Watson Jr. with an unlimited budget, her current owner found her in Canada and sailed her to the Mediterranean. Significant investments were made for her extensive refits in 2000 and 2008.

Below decks, the yacht's interior is warm and inviting. The salon boasts ample seating and a formal dining space, complete with a built-in fireplace. It is ideal for small families or honeymooners.
