Excellent sailing capabilities, shallow draft and a ballast ratio approaching 40%, these are safe stable craft with a good turn of speed. They are popular the world over and have been involved in numerous circumnavigations and adventures in extreme conditions. In 2012, a 36 year old Vega completed a 27,077 mile solo circumnavigation of North and South America, which is testament in itself to the durability and performance of these super craft.
Vessel can sleep 4 over forward cabin and saloon. Although the boat is slender in the beam there is a surprising amount of room below. To port is a sink with manually pumped fresh water. Top starboard is a work area where cooking facilities could be installed. There is good storage behind and below.
Settee/berths port and starboard with shelved storage above and behind. Forward cabin with privacy door. V-Berth with infill. Heads compartment with sea toilet. All waste sanitation hoses have been replaced and heads serviced in September 2020.
12V lighting throughout. 3-Pin sockets on a ring main with shore power cable. Boat benefits from Planar diesel fired heating with programmable remote control. The heater is very efficient and has its own 10 litre tank.
GRP Constructed yacht built in 1973. Shallow draft fin keel with skeg and keel mounted rudder. Tiller steering. GRP topsides were painted white in 2020 using International Toplac. GRP decks finished in blue Interdeck coatings. These have been recoated in September 2020.Flush foredeck with mooring points for warps and anchor warp. Anchor locker with spurnpike access.
Forward accomodation deck with opening hatch for ventilation. Mast foot with internal beam support. Aft accommodation coachroof with sliding companionway hatch. Windows built into coachroof for light.
Stainless steel bow and stern rails joined by stanchions and double set of coated guard wires. handily placed recently varnished, teak grab rails. Good access side decks leading forward from cockpit.
Good sized, deep self draining cockpit with locker storage port, starboard and at transom. Teak locker tops, stained and varnished. Cockpit sole and top mouldings finished in smart blue non slip. Main sheet track to rear.
Engine & ElectricsThe vessel was re-engined in 2005 when the original Volvo MD6A was replaced by a shiney new Beta 13.5 inboard diesel. If the engine has done more than 300 hours since, I will eat my proverbial. She is in super condition and fires straight away. Single lever engine control in cockpit. Reduction gearbox driving stainless steel shaft and 3-bladed bronze propeller. Shaft is fitted with a rope cutter. Engine serviced late 2019.
Bank of 2X12V batteries providing engine start and domestic power. The batteries are fitted with a rotary style isolator/selector. Batteries recharged via engine alternator or a portable charger. Shore power cable.
Sails & RiggingBermudan sloop rigged yacht with deck stepped, gold anodised aluminium spars.Boom with topping lift and rope kicking strap. Stainless steel standing rigging in good order with shroud protectors. Running rigging a mixture of Dyneema and cruising braid on braid.
Mainsheet traveller at rear of cockpit making short handed sailing very easy indeed. Self tailing genoa sheet winches and single speed halyard winches. Vessel rigged for spinnaker including pole. There is an additional babystay fitted with a highfield lever should inner jib be required.
