Along the way, it focused more on building high-performance boats in designs the industry hadn’t seen before, and to push the boundaries of speed. It was once the largest performance boat manufacturer in the boating industry. It quickly amassed a lineup of 14- to 20-foot offshore racing boats that turned heads and thrilled adrenaline-seekers. Over the decades, Baja Boats has built many different models, many of which are highly sought after on the used market as respected classics. 

As with many brands, Baja Boats has had its ups and downs. It was bought by conglomerate company Brunswick, and later sold to Fountain Powerboats. Today Iconic Marine Group owns both Baja and Fountain, among other brands. 

Baja Boats has not just had a change in ownership over the years, but a change in direction. Where it once focused on family performance and value, today it has given its famous Outlaw high-speed sports boats a makeover and re-released them as new versions of the classics. 

 

Model Ranges/Models of Baja Boats

Looking back through the Baja Boats list of models reveals an eclectic mix of family value boats, cuddy cabins, and high-performance offshore sports boats. Today the brand’s focus is on the latter, with the well-loved Outlaw models having been brought back in a new and modern design. All of Baja’s efforts are being put into just three models: the 24 Outlaw, the 27 Outlaw, and the 36 Outlaw. 

The 24 Outlaw sets the scene for this lineup and is a racy, fun sports boat that also doubles as a weekend cruiser. With a good-sized sunpad, large swim platform, and powerful sound system, as well as a spacious cabin with tons of storage that can sleep two, you get a versatile, head-turning speedster. Engine options include the 300 hp 6.2L Bravo 1, 350 hp 6.2L Bravo, and 380hp 8.2L MAG Bravo 1X. 

The same can be said for the 27 Outlaw, which takes things up a notch. It features convertible face-to-face cabin seats allowing for more guests aboard. The sleek, sharply pointed bow and angular racing lines leave no one guessing as to the boat’s speed, with engine options up to the 565 hp EFI Bravo 1 XR Sportmaster. Comfort is taken seriously too, with a sunpad, bolster seats, impressive audio system, swim platform, and even a Porta Potti. 

The 36 Outlaw is Baja’s largest current model and adds a mini galley, spacious cabin with dinette, huge sunpads and seating to its repertoire. Despite its high performance and ability to handle twin 520 HP Bravo 1 XR Mercury engines, it is a practical and comfortable weekender that allows for everything from entertaining friends to cruising the coast and tow sports. 

While the current lineup comprises three models, Baja Boats’ past models number in the dozens. These include the classic CT 150 with its racy design, as well as renowned offshore boats such as the 240 Sport and 420 Sport, to name just a few.
