OWNERS COMMENTS

OWNERS COMMENTS
Blue 2 is the Owners version of a Beneteau Oceanis 373 Clipper. This means she has a single aft cabin, a navigation station, a large heads / wet room and a very large cockpit locker to store the dinghy and cockpit cushions etc.
We bought Blue 2 in October 2018, she had not had any upgrades or regular servicing of sails or rigging that could be detected, so rather than sail her down from Newcastle she was brought down by lorry. We planned to have all the major work done on her over the 2018/2019 winter which included:
• copper coating the hull.
• New rigging with adjustable backstay.
• Whilst the mast was down I replaced every electrical item on it, VHF aerial, TV aeria,l tri/white mast head light, steaming/deck light and Raymarine wind sensor. I also replaced all the cables down the mast and all the mast head halyard sheaves.
• All the seacock skin fittings in the heads area and fitted the latest low odour pipework to the heads, holding tank and sink.
• Replaced the propellor shaft, cutlass bearing and Volvo shaft seal (blackjack).
• Replaced engine and domestic batteries
• Added second Harken ST40 2 speed self tailing winch to the coach roof to make reefing easier
This would ensure we would have no significant issues when launched in the spring of 2019.
We intended to keep the boat for a while so in addition we decided to upgrade her to include all the latest facilities expected on new boats, then some more.
• New sails, we purchased one of the best cruising sail options One Sails could offer.
• 4 solar panels.
• 4Kw peak inverter. With nothing else turned on it will drive the immersion heater.
• Third battery to the domestic supply so we could be self sufficient and if we wanted to lay at anchor for days on end and still have all the facilities like the microwave and TV should we require them.
• Bow thruster.
• Relaced the cockpit tent.
• Replaced the ageing Teak deck with Permateek.
• To make life easier when anchoring I installed a remote control for the anchor on the steering pedestal and painted the first meter of chain red so it can easily be seen from the helm when the anchor is about to surface, there is also a “bent” swivel on the anchor to ensure the anchor always comes on deck the right way up.
• Improved the Genoa cars to make them trackable so that adjusting the genoa trim when reefing could be done from the cockpit.
• New guard rails with the addition of a side gate to ease access when moored alongside (new 2024).
• In 2021 we replaced the Volvo 3 blade 18” x 12” folding propeller with a Darglow FeatherStream 19" x 12 “, 3 blade propeller to drastically reduce the propeller "walk" to Port when putting the engine into astearn.
Every year the fuel and oil filters, the engine and gearbox oil and the sea water impellor are renewed.
Once a year the sea water cooling system is flushed through with fresh water to prevent the build up of salt in the system which could reduce the flow of water hence reduce the engine cooling.
We have had a lot of use with her and love her dearly. All the improvements and updates we have done makes her a real pleasure to sail, she now goes upwind a lot better and berthing in Shotley Marina with the new propeller and bow thruster arrangement makes getting through the lock very easy which means she will be an easy boat to take through the waterways of Europe.
We now find ourselves with too many ailments to fully enjoy her so to be able to live up to her full potential she needs a new home.
