DESCRIPTION

1937 Blackwater Sloop with 8hp diesel engine. Ioanthe is a timber construction gaff rig auxillary sloop and was once owned by Francis. B. Cooke, author of the 'Sailing' book of the Foyles Handbooks series, and was described as having been the boat that had given him the most pleasure in his sailing life.

Cooke, author of the 'Sailing' book of the Foyles Handbooks series, and was described as having been the boat that had given him the most pleasure in his sailing life. Surveyed in 2010 by Adrian White Marine Surveyors, Ioanthe is described as being well equipped, allowing her to undertake coastal cruising subject to suitable weather conditions for a vessel of this type and size. A beautiful boat and piece of history to own and be proud of.

Deck & Construction

  • Constructed from carvel laid pitch pine planking on oak stem and centreline materials, together with what is believed to be steam bent Canadian Rock Elm timbers in the Classic Traditional Boat manner.

  • Believed to be pine laid decks, overlaid with plywood, subsequently epoxy sheathed and finished with a cream deck paint
  • Varnished teak cabin front, sides and cockpit coamings in the traditional manner, together with a replacement plywood coachroof again sheathed in an epoxy system
