Broom Boats is a longstanding British brand of motorized river and ocean cruisers. While the company ceased building and selling boats in 2018, it maintains a popular boating vacations and day charter division from its original base in the Norfolk Broads. Search for used Broom Boats for sale, narrowing down your search by age, price, or length to find the perfect one.
Broom Boats is a British brand of motorized river and ocean boats that was founded in 1898 and ran continuously until 2018. Located on the Norfolk Broads, a large area of inland waterways in England, the brand—under Charles John Broom—produced elegant cruisers from its manufacturing plant in Brundall. While the company stopped building new Broom Boats in 2018, today it operates a charter and boat hire service from the same premises, allowing people to enjoy boating holidays on these iconic craft.
Throughout the decades, Broom Boats built models in both wood and later fiberglass, and many of these are still available, albeit highly sought after, on the used market. While today Broom only offers a charter fleet of river boats and doesn’t build new vessels, it has in fact been offering boats for rent since 1912.
The Broom Boats we see today have their origins in the 1940s models, which were built as spacious cruisers for sale as well as for charter. These set the standard for future generations of boats, with high specification interiors and elegant finishings. From the 1970s through to the late 1990s and early 2000s, Broom Boats also built ocean-going models. These were similar in sizes to their river counterparts and had the same distinctive cabin cruiser appearance yet featured semi-displacement hulls for more ocean-going stability.
Broom Boats on the used market are highly sought after and renowned for their excellent craftsmanship, durability, and luxurious finishings. Many boats are bought by boating vacation companies in the Norfolk Broads and meticulously maintained, while others are sold into the private used market and make popular liveaboard and cruising boats.
Broom built a huge range of models over the years, and its most recent lineup of modern cruisers is the one offered for charter. Models include the Skyway, a stylish and contemporary cruiser that is ideal for families or groups of friends as it can accommodate up to six passengers. Its most notable feature is the upper deck, which offers panoramic views over the surrounding river landscapes. Inside there are two cabins with further sleeping on the convertible dinette. The Bolero model is a more traditional single-level cruiser that was built to allow navigation under the lower bridges of the region’s waterways. It can accommodate four passengers overnight in comfort.
The Skipper model, also known as the Broom 30, was a revival of the popular Broom 29 and can still be found for sale on the used market. This model focuses on comfortable interior spaces, with a cozy saloon and spacious cabin and galley.
The Broom 35 Coupe balances interior space with a low air draft, allowing for longer journeys up the inland waterways and their low bridges. It has a customizable layout with movable furniture, making it highly versatile as a cruiser.
The Broom Explorer 42 is a luxury model that can accommodate larger groups or families and features a large dining area, spacious galley, and upper deck. One of its most appealing features is the large opening sunroof over the saloon that allows in fresh air and sunlight. It can accommodate eight passengers and is Broom’s largest model.
Older models that are available on the used market include the Broom 38, Broom 33, and Broom 42, which all date to around the 1990s. It is worth mentioning that Broom ocean-going models include the Broom Ocean 31, Broom Ocean 40, and Broom Ocean 34, which also date to the 1990s.
