Design Features

The Catalina 27 was considered a "big" boat when first introduced in 1971, and it was the queen of the Catalina fleet at that time. The design reflects a "California 1970s modern" style, featuring an almost flat sheer line with a large, well-blended cabin trunk and cockpit coamings. There is plenty of freeboard and nearly 9 feet of beam, which creates space below. The high-aspect fin keel and spade rudder enhance performance.

The Catalina 27 hull is solid fiberglass, with thickness tapering significantly from the waterline up. The deck is plywood cored.

On Deck

On deck, the Catalina 27 features a shallow but comfortable cockpit with a locker to port and an aft lazarette. The companionway is large, and there is no significant bridge deck. The traveler is mounted over the companionway, and the headsail tracks are inboard for close sheeting angles.
