MITI was built in 1949 by Chris Craft, USA to their 18ft Riviera design and shipped to Italy where in the 1950s it is believed to have been used by film star Sophia Loren when owned by her husband Carlo Pont during the 1950s.
The Rivera model was available in 16ft, 18ft and 20ft sizes and was a iconic runabout during the 1950s with an estimated 1,210 produced by Chris Craft overall from 1949 to 1954. Chris Craft was first established in 1881 by Chris Smith in Michigan and was particularly famous in the period from the 1920s to 1950s for their mahogany hulled power boats of which 159 models were available. Elvis, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Katharine Hepburn and Sophia Loren were associated with these stylish and desirable boats.
MITI was originally restored in 2001 and again professionally restored in 2021 by master shipwrights in Cornwall. Re-finished mahogany hull and interior, upholstered seating for five and re-finished original fittings.
