19’ Golant Gaffer built by the current owner to the well known Roger Dongray plans. The boat was completed and launched in 1991.

The Golant Gaffer is a popular design with traditional lines and rig, but built from modern wood/epoxy strip plank methods which make for a low maintenance and tough hull.

A brand new Yanmar 2YM15 engine was fitted in 2022 but has hardly been used since.

Comes with a good quality twin axle galvanised road trailer and all over winter cover. Finished in paint rather than varnish for a low maintenance boat.

Construction

• Strip plank hull using 1cm red cedar, all epoxy bonded. Hull sheathed inside and out in epoxy glass cloth.
• Bulkheads of marine plywood epoxy bonded into the hull for strength.
• Deck is laid in strip plank cedar and epoxy sheathed externally.
• External lead ballast keel of 0.5 tons fastened with stainless steel keel bolts.
• Iroko coachroof coamings
• Self draining cockpit with painted plywood thwarts and sole. Water tight hatch in the sole to access aft bilge. All new cockpit seacocks 2024.
• Tiller steering on a transom hung rudder.

Rig

• Gaff cutter rig on a deck stepped painted spruce mast, boom, bowsprit and gaff yard.
• Stainless steel standing rigging new in 2003. Bronze rigging screws with external bronze chain plates.
• Running backstays on tackles.
• 1 non-ST winch on the coachroof with a pair of clutches.
• Mainsail, staysail and jib by Dolphin Sails all in good condition.

Machinery

• Yanmar 2YM15 twin cylinder 17hp engine installed new in 2022. The engine has hardly been used since installation.
• Single lever controls to a centreline Darglow feathering propeller. 4.5 knots cruising speed. 6.5 knots max speed.
• 60 litre plastic fuel tank in cockpit locker.
• 2 x 12 volt batteries charged from the engine alternator

Accommodation

• Usual Golant accommodation with 2 single berths and sitting headroom.
• Steps down into the cabin over the varnished iroko engine box lid.
• Origo 2 burner spirit stove to port and stainless sink to starboard.
• 2 single settee berths with storage shelves outboard under the deck head.
• Centreline door into the forepeak with space for a ‘bucket and chuck it’ heads.
