Yachting World Seahorse, designed by E.G Van De Stadt in 1959 as part of a design competition sponsored by Yacht World Magazine for a ‘build it yourself’ boat.

Van de Stadt was an accomplished yacht designer when he designed the Seahorse, she was design number 67 of his large portfolio totalling 150.

Rocinante was built by her first owner Tony Storer in 1974 to a very high standard for both racing and cruising. Fitted out with bunks to sleep 5, with a small heads and galley she is the perfect pocket cruiser/racer.

Much upgrading and refit work carried out in last 2 experienced ownerships including fitting her with both Bermudan and gaff rigs. Changing to gaff is very simple using the same mast in the same position, changing backstays and fitting the gaff yard. With her gaff rig she has become somewhat of a bandit racer on the circuit.

Construction

Hull

Hard chine plywood hull. Epoxy glass cloth sheathed externally for a strong and low maintenance hull.

Cast iron ballast keel fastened with stainless steel bolts.

Decks and Cockpit

Marine plywood decks, sheathed externally and painted in non-slip.

Self draining cockpit made from sheathed marine plywood with varnished cockpit coamings.

Superstructure

Coackroof with a sheathed plywood coachroof deck on mahogany deck beams. Portlights in the coamings.

Rig

One mast that can be converted from Bermudan to gaff depending on the regatta. Mast position and stading rigging does not change, apart from the backstay which is removed and replaced with runners.

Sailspar aluminium mast and boom.

Stainless steel standing rigging new in 2023.

Carbon fibre gaff yard.

General Description

Interior designed for racing, it is simple and functional. Steps down from the companionway with a single settee berth either side.

Galley midships to starboard.

Port side entrance into the forepeak with a single berth to port.
