Wooden Ships Comments on this Arthur Robb Admirals Cup yacht
Designed by Arthur Robb and built by Port Hamble Ltd in 1959 as an ocean racer for Selwyn Slater, she is a development of his and Robb’s famous Uomie. Robb’s 1954 Uomie had the distinction of sailing in all 3 of the great ocean races, Bermuda, Fastnet and Sydney-Hobart, with Selwyn Slater and later George Pattinson. Although Robb disliked Ramrod being described as a larger version of Uomie, she is certainly a clear development of the same design and proved just as successful. She was one of 3 yachts in the UK winning team in the 1959 Admiral’s Cup Series, 1st in the 1959 Channel Race, Cowes-Dinard, Southsea-Harwich, North Sea Race, Morgan Cup etc etc. Quite a remarkable and distinguished racing career.
Designed to take advantage of the rules, she has a full keel with cut-away fore foot, well balanced bow and truncated counter stern.
Spacious interior with 6 berths and ample headroom plus a huge quantity of storage space.
Major refit in 2013 where the hull was stripped to bare wood, sheer strakes replaced and the whole boat painted professionally.
A true pedigree ocean racing yacht of her era in tidy condition.
