Construction
Compass 34 built in 1979 by Compass Yachts to their own design. Blue painted GRP hull (repainted 2012), cream superstructure and decks with non-slip surfaces. Internally the hull is reinforced with a steel frame which incorporates the mast step and ties into the chain plates, similar to the system used by X-Yachts, designed to create a very stiff and strong structure. Cast iron fin keel. Wheel steering to spade hung rudder.
'Alter Ego' has only had three owners from new and has been in her current ownership since 2006. She has proven a capable and comfortable passagemaker, having sailed from the Greek islands to the UK during current ownership, last wintered ashore in 2017/18 and in April 2018 she was ashore again for new antifoul and anodes.
