OWNERS COMMENTS
Designed by Bill Dixon, Distant Drum was one of three Callisto 435s of eight Callisto yachts built in total. She is a tough, go anywhere blue water cruiser. She is well designed both internally and externally as a live aboard boat to be easily handled by a couple.
HISTORY
Once commissioned, Distant Drum was sailed around Great Britain before being sailed to the Mediterranean where she cruised for several years finally returning to the UK in October 2002. New owners purchased distant drum in 2003 when she was refurbished and the bow thruster and updated navigation equipment was added. They sailed Distant Drum to the Mediterranean via a cruise of the Atlantic coast of France, the north coast of Spain and Portugal and after cruising the Mediterranean for four years Distant Drum returned to England in 2009.
She has been extensively maintained by all her owners, including the current owners. She comes with an impressive inventory of both equipment and spares, too many to list however the current owner has itemised and documented the contents of the lockers.
The current owners purchased Distant Drum in March 2013 and sailed her from Gillingham, Kent to Fox’s, Ipswich where she was derigged and her hull was gritblasted to the waterline, placed in the warming shed and had numerous coats of Hempels Hempadour two pack epoxy applied to the hull including the rudder and keel areas, using airless spray to a minimum 400 micron dry film thickness. This was sealed with Hempels Hard Racing antifouling.
The original deck mounted stanchions & wire rails were replaced with stainless steel stanchions and rails at the edge of the deck.
As advised by their surveyor, the teak deck was lifted and replaced with Permateak decking.
She had all new standing rigging along with a new stainless steel mast support and all new sheets for the sails. New navigation equipment was installed at this time and charts and maps are updated annually.
In spring 2015 her engine was removed and completely overhauled by Seapower Marine of Woolverstone after identifying an oil leak from the sump cover, which had a new replacement at this time.
The current owners have sailed her extensively along the east and south coast of the UK and across to The Netherlands, Belgium and France.
