In 1992/93 she crossed the Atlantic via the West Indies to Maine, returning in 1995. Since then she has been sailed extensively around the UK, and after a major refit by the Elephant Boatyard in 2010 she completed two separate circumnavigations of the UK taking in the Shetland Islands and the Orkneys. In the present ownership she has been altered in many ways to improve her sailing ability and her comfort with a newly designed taller mast in 2006, Beta Marine engine in 2007 and the large quarter berth in 2009. She has had extra tanks fitted, heating systems, modern charging systems and all new upholstery in recent years. Built using modern techniques making her very strong but light with a healthy ballast ratio and large internal volume, she is a very unusual boat. Being only 34' length on deck she is not a big boat but has more space and volume than most gaffers of this size. Currently Coded Category 2 under the MCA, she is fully equipped and licensed to work commercially as a charter vessel. Length on Deck 34' Length Overall 43' Length Waterline 29' Beam 10'8" Draft 5'8" Displacement 9 tons Construction The hull is built from Strip plank Douglas Fir, all resorcinol glued. Externally she has 2 layers of marine plywood glued on in diagonal strips, total hull thickness of 1.5". Sheathed externally in epoxy glass cloth. 6 heavy laminated Iroko Ring frames spread throughout the boat with laminate knees in each top corner. Solid Iroko keel. Laminated Iroko floors across the centreline in between the ring frames. External lead ballast keel of 3.5 tons fastened with stainless steel bolts. Deck is 1" T&G pine overlaid with 0.5" marine plywood and sheathed externally in epoxy glass cloth. Varnished teak toe rails, coachroof and deck furniture Deep self draining cockpit with scrubbed teak thwarts. Large locker to port. Tiller steering with transom hung rudder.     Rig Gaff cutter rig on a hollow keel stepped Douglas Fir mast built by Collars in 2006 to an Ed Burnett design. Varnished wooden boom, gaff and bowsprit. The berths are all a very good size and headroom is ample right through the saloon. Steps down from the companion hatch with the galley to port and chart desk to starboard. Aft of the chart desk is a large single quarter berth, 6' x 3'6" with storage shelves and lockers. The galley has been well thought out with a 2 burner Force 10 gas stove with oven and grill and a twin stainless steel sink with hot and cold water plus a manual seawater tap. Top access 12v fridge. Deep lockers outboard for stowage and bookshelves. Pull out drawer below the chart desk. Garmin plotter mounted by the desk for easy use. Half height bulkheads and a step down divide off the main saloon with a centreline dropleaf varnished teak table.
