Wooden Ships Comments on this Dickie of Bangor Bermudan Yawl
Designed by McPherson Campbell and built by Dickies of Bangor in 1956.
A gentlemans racing yacht built for Sir Roy Hardy Dobson, then chairman of Hawker Siddeley, one of 5 built to the same design. At least 3 of these are still sailing.
Bought by the present owner in 2004, she has been cruised around northern Europe and lived aboard for a period. Until a few years ago she was coded under the MCA for commercial work with all the equipment, surveys and standards that entails.
Very solid construction with enormous sawn frames. New laid deck put down in 1994. Nice interior with 6 berths including a double. Deep sheltered cockpit with wheel steering. The yawl rig can be perfectly balanced so that she sails herself and in heavy weather she can be driven to windward with just a mizzen and headsail making her an easy and comfortable boat to sail.
The documentation with the boat covering her refits and maintenance is very extensive, detailing a large part of her history giving a buyer confidence that she has been well maintained. Last survey done in 2018 plus all MCA paperwork from her coding is available. Some original build drawings and documentation with the boat.
A fine looking and well maintained classic yacht.
