Wooden Ships Comments on this Fred Parker Sloop

Designed by Fred Parker and built by Nunn Bros. Ltd of Waldringfield in 1957 to Lloyds 100A1 classification. Launched with the name Barleycorn, the commissioning owner was Hubert Richard Courage of brewing fame, he bought a consignment of Golden Burma Teak and had the yard build him the yacht from that timber. Fred Parker drew the lines as a one off especially for Courage and as far as we know she was the only boat built to this design.

The current owner bought the boat from Courage in 1973 and has cruised her extensively since that time with trips from the UK to Greece and up to the Lofoten islands reaching 68° North.

She is known to sail extremely well with good windward performance and will stand up to her canvas. The owners have weathered severe conditions on a number of occasions during their voyages and she has never given any cause for concern.

An elegant boat with a nice history that has been cruised extensively in the long present ownership.
