Wooden Ships Comments on this Fred Shepherd Yawl

Designed by Fred Shepherd and built by Lavis and Sons Yachtbuilders, Exmouth, Devon in 1939.

This was the last yacht designed by Fred Shepherd before retiring in 1939, he penned some 80 boats during his career including the famous Lively Lady for Sir Alec Rose, which is a very similar design to this yacht.

She has been laid up ashore in Scotland for a number of years, well covered from the elements, and will require some refit work before she goes sailing again. The hull, according to a boat builder, is basically sound but has dried out considerably on one side. The engine is beyond repair and will require replacement. Her rig, sails and spars are complete and all come with the boat.

There is plenty of detailed information with the boat including several surveys and old articles allowing a new owner to gain a far better understanding of the boat and what might be required to refit her.
