The Folkboat is known around the world, born from a design competition in Sweden, the final plans were put together by Tord Sunden in 1942 and the result was a small but immensely capable boat that became hugely popular not only in Scandinavia but across the world. Originally built using clinker construction, the design evolved with many derivatives appearing all over the world, some optimised for racing and some given extra superstructure to increase their volume for comfortable cruising. Latterly GRP versions appeared such as this particular boat. This boat is authentic to the original Nordic Folkboat design except the for the coachroof which has been extended forward of the mast to increase the space in the cabin. The mast is also deck stepped rather than keel stepped to allow easier movement around the inside of the boat, but otherwise her lines and dimensions are faithful to the original plans. The installation of an inboard diesel engine is not original but makes her a more practical cruising boat. The boat has been fitted out with lots of equipment such as Raymarine chartplotter and nav system, autopilot, TackTick instruments, Eberspacher cabin heater, Jabsco heads and a Beta 10hp diesel with a very nice Darglow feathering propeller. Recently the engine has been serviced, the hull antifouled and covers repaired so she is now ready to launch and use for the season. 2012 survey available.
