Inchcape 45 Trawler Yacht Wooden Ships CommentsThe Inchcape range of motor sailer designs were the result of a collaboration between Jack Francis Jones and James Evans of Eyemouth Boatbuilding Company who built the Inchcapes at their yard in Berwickshire.
His designs were inspired by the Scottish fishing boats which were built to be strong, powerful and seaworthy vessels capable of working in the North Sea and North Atlantic all year round, Evans wanted to replicate these virtues in a pleasure yacht so that owners had the comfort of a yacht with the strength and peace of mind of a fishing boat. They achieved this blend and came up with a variety of sizes, the Inchcape 45 being one of the more popular of the range. Several were built over the years, but this is the very last example having gone down the slip in Eyemouth in 1990.
She was built for a Portuguese gentleman who cruised her around the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal. She was then sold and spent 10 years cruising the Baltic Sea covering many miles. The next owner kept the boat in Falmouth and was a meticulous and careful owner, undertaking a thorough refit of the hull, rig and systems.
She was then sold to the present owner in 2016 who has put the boat through a no expense spared period of work, upgrading every aspect of the boat and bringing her up to the standards required for the MCA code of Practice Category 1.
This is a fully equipped and absolutely ready to go cruising yacht with a huge internal volume allowing her owners to go anywhere in the world in style, safety and comfort. She is the ideal boat for live aboard cruising, something many people are now able to consider with the ability to work remotely, having a yacht like this as their base and cruising gently from port to port.
She has better sailing capabilities than one might expect, in anything more than 12 knots of breeze she will move without help from the engine. At 20 knots plus she will be flying along with a very comfortable motion.
