Wooden Ships Comments on this Sandbanks Yacht Co. Bermudan Sloop
Built by the Sand banks Motor Co. in 1939. It is understood she was designed by Eric H. French but it is also thought Fred Parker was involved in this design.
She was built for Arthur Strohmenger, inventor of ARC welding who then sold her to Lord Lyle of Westbourne in 1947 who used her in the Solent, before she was bought by Californian yacht broker Augustus J Newman.

She was built for Arthur Strohmenger, inventor of ARC welding who then sold her to Lord Lyle of Westbourne in 1947 who used her in the Solent, before she was bought by Californian yacht broker Augustus J Newman. She eventually came to Dartmouth in 1972 where she has been based ever since.
Bought by the current owner as a project boat to use in his retirement, however other projects have taken priority so she was never completed. The boat has been sat ashore for a few years and is in need of some significant repairs including new fore and aft decks. She appears to have a very good rig and engine.
This is very much a project but for the right person would be a worthwhile task and she would be a lovely boat once completed. She shallow draft and easily handled rig make her ideal for coastal exploration, enabling her to explore upstream where deeper boats cannot go.
