Remarks :Shady lady is a 1987 built Dehler 38 Cruiser Racer currently lying at Swansea Yacht Club, designed by Van De Stadt and built to German Lloyds specifications she has a pleasing profile and strong sailing characteristics which has allowed her to be used competitively and successfully on the local racing circuit for many years.
She has the IOR Cruiser Racer Rig with a taller mast and deeper keel than the standard Dehler 38 and has running back stays and check stays.
For the last few years she has been unused, so she is now in need of some general TLC and smartening up both inside and on decks.
She had a new mast and rigging installed in 2015 and comes with an extensive sail wardrobe which is uncatalogued but includes light airs sails, spare main and Genoa sails.
On deck she would benefit from repainting and replacement of the running rigging which would help to smarten the general appearance of the boat significantly, the interior is also need a general clean but with the right attention could be put back into good condition.
The engine is housed in the saloon table which was a common design at the time of the build and it appears to be in very good condition with great access to all sides, the coupling could use replacing due to corrosion. There is also a small amount of water in the bilges, but it is thought this is most likely rainwater ingress due to the length of time she’s been standing afloat.
Both sides of the saloon have sofa style seating which double as berths with their respective lee cloths, behind, under and above both seating areas is further storage and lockers. Aft of the saloon there is the chart table which includes the Controls for the Eberspacher heating, Lowrance Global Map, Standard horizon VHF, Hercules system 390, 12 V distribution board, and engine hour meter which is currently reading 4515 hours.
To port there is a small galley which includes a Plastimo gimballed Neptune cooker, a double stainless sink extending worktop along with the coolbox and further storage. In the aft of the boat there are two symmetrical cabins both boys their own heads both which will benefit from new mattresses and servicing to the heads compartment
There is a V-berth compartment forward which currently serves as the sail locker adnd has a deck hatch for recovering and deploying sails from and to the deck.
As with all boats we’d recommend a throughout survey to check the condition of the hull, valves and operation of the boats systems which haven’t been used for a number of years.
Fundamentally she is a nice boat and is just a bit battle worn but there is every opportunity for the right buyer to make her into a superb fast cruiser or club racer again, also thanks to her design and speed she would also make a good distance cruiser if desired.
