Rarely is Provenance used with reference to yachts, it is certainly integral in the world of art, cars, wines, and estates. However, if any yacht deserves her proud history touted as “extra value”, it is Patriot.
James “Jim” Moran is a legend in yachting circles and moreover has probably built more Feadships than any other owner in the history of that esteemed company. He also enjoyed sportfishing and had a custom Rybovich built, but when they couldn’t build a larger version, he went to Feadship and asked them to build a larger replica of his Rybovich, which resulted in building the 87’ yacht, now named “Patriot”.
Purchased from Mr. Moran in 2005 by another prolific American yachtsman, who proceeded to completely re-build the yacht, down to the stringers, the extensive refit included new engines, all-new engine room equipment and reportedly spent in excess of $12 million to completely update the yacht in a 15+ month thorough rebuild.
The current owner purchased her about 6 years ago and has continued to upgrade her with every modern convenience, while still maintaining her classic styling. Major upgrades include an all-new “glass bridge” which hides away when not in use, all new Quantum central hydraulic system running an upgraded bow-thruster and added “zero speed” stabilizers, all new headliners with LED lighting throughout, all new galley appliances, new dinette area, to name just some of the upgrades. Photography credit to Jim Raycroft.
A true "Gentleman’s Sport Yacht," PATRIOT built by a pedigree builder, Feadship, turns heads wherever she goes. Kept in pristine condition and flawlessly maintained with every modern convenience, PATRIOT is a versatile and stunning yacht, equally at home fishing or cruising between Newport, Nantucket, and Palm Beach.
With her flawless styling, quality construction and modern systems, Patriot’s current owner has continued to update a work of art, with his unrivaled attention to detail and extremely well-designed living solutions, which provides the utmost in yachting tradition, safety, and relaxation, without the loss of comfort or privacy. The 3 stateroom / 3 head layouts can accommodate up to 7 people with a beautifully remodeled interior and a large updated custom galley.
While initially conceived and built as a capable fish-raising machine, PATRIOT is so much more, with a full seating area around a dining table under removable sunshades in the cockpit, when cruising is more desirable.
Boarding to the cockpit – port or starboard, on her custom boarding system the intricate details begin. Natural teak cap rails and teak decks along with a varnished teak transom and varnished teak bulkheads give an immediate elegant feeling. Complete with all the necessary equipment to fish or entertain, nothing has been overlooked in its stunning design, which is elegant, clean and practical.

As you enter the salon from the mezzanine seating on the starboard quarter, you are immediately struck by the 360 degrees of windows, allowing natural light and great vistas, all of which can be hidden by the push of a button, as the custom electric blinds quietly obscure the outside world. The blend of classic teak wood joinery combined with rich fabric creates an atmosphere of classic luxury and comfort.
To port is a comfortable L-shaped settee and during her 2016 refit, the salon and galley were reconfigured to include a dinette to starboard. Additional storage was added to include a lazy-Susan, clear ice maker, wine rack, and ample storage for stemware. A custom overhead lowering 48" flatscreen HD TV retracts down out of the overhead for easy viewing and seamlessly disappears when not in use. A rare opportunity to purchase a superlative yacht in absolute turn-key condition must be seen to be appreciated. Considered a "Gentleman’s Sport Yacht," PATRIOT is a versatile and stunning yacht that has been incredibly refitted by experienced yachtsmen and Captains throughout her years and is available to the most discerning buyer. PATRIOT undoubtedly stands out everywhere she travels, with her flawless styling, quality construction, and incredible versatility – a true gem!
Purchased in 2005 by a well-known yachting family. The owner and Captain completed a 15-month “re-fit” at Derecktor's Florida. This extensive refit included removing the house and gutting the interior to the aluminum frames. The goal was to create an ergonomic, safe, extremely quiet, and state-of-the-art "One Off" Gentleman's Sport Yacht. Refurbished from the hull up, there isn't a detail that was missed. Honey-combed backed wood to keep the weight down, hull dampening, deck insulators, and extra soundproofing make this beauty extremely quiet while underway, with sound decibel readings that are unmatched by any other sportfish on the market today.
Excellent performance with the installation of new 12V2000 MTU's giving her speeds up to 25kts. Every piece of equipment was removed and replaced with new state-of-the-art technology.
Able to provide the absolute best in Sport Fishing or Day Cruising. Patriot has benefitted from proud owners and additional yard periods, in 2015/2016 and another in 2019/2020. In 2015/2016 she received a new coat of paint on her topsides and a full vessel systems checkup, before going back in the water.
Her current owner has continued to add and upgrade many notable features to PATRIOT, not just aesthetically, but functionally too. One notable item is the settee you see as you enter the Main Salon to the starboard side. You will also note the countersunk granite countertop on the island that matches the settee tabletop. While relaxing in the cockpit you can enjoy some cover from the sun under custom shade sails affixed to 4 removable stainless-steel poles.
Another of the many customs features the current owner had fabricated are the removable boarding steps with a sturdy handrail from the dock to the cockpit, making arriving or leaving unchallenging.
These are just some of the upgrades she has benefited from. A detailed list is available providing comfort that PATRIOT has continued to receive the attention and care she deserves.
