Comments

Acquired by the current owners in 2006 the yacht was renamed Maria Alba II and has undergone steady improvement since. Whilst most modifications have been aimed at improving her usability as a cruising yacht, a strict weight budget of one ton was adhered to in order not to overly affect her sailing characteristics. A full list of recent refitting works is included at the end of this specification - below is a summary.

The current owners have used MARIA ALBA II purely for cruising with family and friends. The yacht always had full crew and professional maintenance. Mostly the yacht has been used in the Mediterranean but she did cross for one winter to the Caribbean (so did two trans-atlantics – there and back). Otherwise they have enjoyed her only during the Mediterranean summer seasons. Usually with thirty straight days each summer coastal cruising, and almost always on anchor at night.  Places visited have included, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Balearics.

Her home port is on the mainland of Spain.

Maria Alba II was originally built as Leopard of London. Launched in June 2000, the yacht was designed to have the performance to compete in regattas coupled with the luxury to charter.

The yacht was conceived, built and engineered by a team of the highest pedigree: Reichel/Pugh as the design team; Green Marine of Southampton built the hull, deck and primary structures; Ken Freivokh Designs handled the yacht's interior and exterior design; Southampton Yacht Services ran the systems designs and implementation. At approx 45 tons displacement and with ample sail area, she is clearly able to deliver on the performance, while her luxury accommodations (considerably upgraded in the last years) attest to her excellent cruising suitability.

As Leopard of London she was a keen competitor on the racing circuit worldwide, competing in the Fastnet, Sydney-Hobart, and Middle Sea Race, among others. She broke the record in the Round-the-Island race (Isle of Wight) in 2001. However she was always a comfortable yacht and held MCA classification until 2009.
