The Halmatic 30 is a well-built, long-keeled cruiser. It excels in all-weather performance and is capable of serious passage making with forgiving and comfortable handling. The interior features a traditional layout that is both spacious and practical. It is rare to find a boat of this age in such good condition. This craft has been much-loved and well-sorted, so don't hesitate to come and have a look. It is Part One registered from new.
Viewing is by appointment through our Suffolk Office.
The accommodation offers up to five berths, with full standing headroom and excellent stowage throughout. In the forecabin, there are two singles with stowage underneath and an opening hatch to the foredeck. The heads compartment to starboard includes a Lavac marine toilet, washbasin, and shower, with a good-sized hanging locker opposite.
Moving aft into the saloon, there is a single settee berth to port with a trotter box. A fixed table with drop leaves is located at the center, and an L-shaped settee berth to starboard converts into a double. The chart table is in the starboard aft quarter, housing instruments and the control panel. The galley is opposite to port and includes a Taylors 043 two-burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven, a coolbox, stainless steel sink, and a pressurized hot and cold water system throughout. Eberspacher diesel-fired hot air central heating is also installed. New headlinings were added in 2014, and curtains are included.
Located behind the companionway is the Volvo Penta 2002, a three-cylinder diesel engine with 18hp. It features electric start and is freshwater cooled via a heat exchanger. The shaft drive connects to a Feathering Bruntons three-bladed propeller, with a single lever control. The fuel capacity is 58 litres. The engine has been serviced annually by its owner, who is an Engineer.
The boat features a masthead rigged Bermudan sloop with a deck-stepped anodised Selden mast and boom (2012). The standing rigging is stainless steel (2012), and the running rigging is Terylene (2012). It includes two Anderson two-speed sheet winches, two Antal two-speed halyard winches, and one Antal reefing winch. The mainsail is fully battened with slab reefing, and there is a headsail furling system, spinnaker pole, whisker pole, and Harken mainsail cars.
The boat was moulded by Halmatic in 1988 and first launched in 1990 after being fitted out by her first owner to a very high standard. It features a white GRP hull with style stripes, a teak toe rail, and a white GRP superstructure with moulded non-slip to the deck. The long keel has cast iron ballast, and the keel-hung rudder is controlled by tiller steering. The aft self-draining cockpit has Afrormosia laid cockpit seating. The hull was coppercoated in 2015. Custom Gebo windows and Lewmar portlights with new acrylics are also included.
There have been two owners from new.
This is not your stock Halmatic 30. It is unique due to the quality of the fittings and the many hours spent considering and sourcing the best options during her build. Both owners have been Engineers, with the latter being a Naval Architect. This boat has been Part 1 registered from new. The fit-out required that all panels be removable for 100% access to all systems and areas. The attention to detail in making all systems easily accessible sets this boat apart from many supposed high-end builders.
Moulded as one of the last H30 in 1988, the superior fit-out was done by the first owner and his cousin, a master shop fitter. The interior wood came from stock held back from 1955 when an early 20C bank building was stripped. The quality of materials and workmanship is superior to factory standards.
Unique to this boat are the custom-made Gebo fixed windows, which have modern radius corners and are of superior quality. The portlights are Lewmar with new acrylics, and the main hatch is a Canpa Lowline composite model with new acrylic and seal. The smaller saloon hatch is another Gebo unit.
The entire rig was replaced in 2012 with Atlantic/Selden spars and sails from Dart Sails of Dartmouth. A new Furuno commercial-grade plotter, radar, and AIS receiver were also installed at that time. The cost of these updates exceeded £19,000.
In 2015, the bottom was coppercoated for £3,500, and a Bruntons 3-blade folding prop was fitted for £1,500.
She has two spinnakers, both in excellent condition, and a storm jib (unused) that sets on a removable inner forestay. The battened main utilizes Harken rollers for easy hoisting and control, with three slab reefing lines led to the mast winch.
The original Volvo Penta 2002 engine has been serviced annually by the Engineer owners. It features indirect freshwater cooling, which has recently been cleaned and refitted with new seals.
The original calorifier was replaced with a stainless steel unit (AC and engine heating), along with a new freshwater pump (Jabsco). A cockpit shower is fitted for convenience. The heads feature a deep basin and shower attachment, with a separate shower drain pump. The galley has pumped hot/cold water and a hand freshwater pump. The galley sink drains via a foot pump to avoid downflooding risk when heeled.
The current owner has installed AC systems using BlueSea panels and Cobra tinned cables with breakers for shore power, the calorifier, a new Cetek M200 charger, and numerous 240v AC plug sockets with USB ports.
Main house batteries (2) were replaced with superior Rolls S12-128 AGM units a couple of years ago. The engine battery is five years old but holds a good charge and can be linked in parallel with the house units if necessary.
There is a standard insulated cold box, along with a small 12v fridge unit. AC wiring has been fitted for a potential 240v refrigeration unit within the cold box.
The cooker is a Taylors 043 gas unit with twin rings and an oven, plus a toasting grill. A US-made gas BBQ is cockpit-mounted and connects directly to the locker gas supply.
There are five berths (standard). The table in the saloon drops to form a double. In the bow, there are two single berths, but an infill structure (removable) would allow this to be used as a double (only the infill cushion is required to complete). There is dry storage under all berths.
The electric bilge pump is supplemented by a large capacity manual gusher pump mounted in the aft cockpit locker.
New washboards (GREY tinted Acrylic with SS vent) are scheduled for 2024.
Beaching legs are included, which have been fitted on hard standing but never used in earnest.
In my capacity at Eagle Boat Windows, I advise buyers to "buy the best you can." This yacht may seem expensive for a H30, but £15k can quickly disappear on a project. When I first saw LB (as we call her), I knew she was a peach, built with love, care, and incredible attention to detail. The surveyor agreed and struggled to find fault, eventually noting only the need for an updated gas regulator.
Are there things to do? Some, I guess, are more wants than needs. The Afrormosia cockpit locker lids could look better with teak, and I would consider adding a cockpit grating underfoot. The air heater (Eberspacher) hasn't been used for a while and may need recommissioning. Otherwise, I find it difficult to suggest work for a prospective buyer. I hope they use her more than I have found time to.

General note on safety equipment: Any safety equipment such as liferaft, fire extinguishers, and flares, etc., are usually personal to the current owner(s) and if being left on board as part of the sale of a used vessel, may require routine servicing, replacement, or changing to meet a new owner’s specific needs.
