A very unique opportunity to own an ex RNLI lifeboat. “Irish Mist” was the former Rosslare Harbour lifeboat O.N.St Brendan. In 1999 she was involved in a collision with a ferry which failed to stop and collided with her. She wasn’t flooded below deck and her engine bay was left intact. She did however suffer from minor damage to her superstructure only and not to her hull.
After inspection the RNLI deemed it unnecessary to repair her as it was at that time they were switching from the Aran class to the Severn Class Lifeboats and therefore took the decision to sell her. The original engines were intact and so the RNLI decided to keep them as spares for their other lifeboats. The damage to her superstructure was professionally repaired by David Hughes fabrication shortly after her new owners bought her in 2000 and she was later surveyed and coded by Mike Fox in 2006 for 16 people to operate 60miles offshore (this coding has now lapsed). Two Detroit engines were fitted 2005 and have approx. 5000 hours on them. Her fuel capacity is 624 Gallons and she will burn 11GPH at 10 knots giving an approximate range of 500 Nautical Miles. At full tilt she will burn 20 Gallons per hour giving you a range of 250 Nautical Miles. The water tank capacity is 341 Litres. Both engines are in working order and have been regularly run up however they are now due a service. She was last in the water about 5 years ago and was being used regularly as a fishing trip/tours boat by her current owners before they decided to sell. Having been on the hard standing for several years now Irish Mist is in need of someone to take her on and bring her back to former glory. Viewing is highly recommended to understand the scale of the work involved with this vessel however a very rewarding and unique opportunity awaits any potential buyer.
