Construction

Lady Mary is a sistership to Edith Rose, designed by Harrison Butler to be an improved version of his own yacht, Vindilis. Built in 1937 by Whisstocks of Woodbridge of Carvel construction with pitch pine planking, copper fastened to steam-bent oak frames. Straight-laid teak deck planking on plywood sub-decks. Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings and grabrails with sheathed top. Long keel with a combination of cast iron ballast keel and additional lead ballast weights. Tiller steering to keel hung rudder. Self-draining aft cockpit.

Additional Comments

Her current owners carried out a comprehensive and extensive keel-up restoration over a ten-year period which was completed in 1992. During their ownership, she has been regularly maintained and upgraded with expensive items such as self-tailing winches and a modern engine, and looks to be in very solid ready to enjoy condition. An impressive folder covering her restoration and history is included within the sale and her providence is well established, with a number of surveys on file, the last being carried out in 2018 and stating she was 'built to a remarkably high standard and has been generally well maintained and has been extensively refitted and updated over the years'.
