Lucas Yachting:Galago is a heavy displacement yacht built for blue water cruising with a design based on Hiscock's Wanderer III, including his suggested improvements. Carvel planked Iroko on oak frames, copper fastened, with teak deck and cockpit trim. Beautiful teak interior with an abundance of storage space - a sea-kindly hull shape, providing an easy motion at sea with a well balanced helm.
Designed by Paul Garside and built to a high specification in 1983 by Gweek Quay Boatyard, a comprehensive Survey by Adrian White concluded that the major refit program by Nick Gates of Emsworth (Classic Yacht specialist) in 2011 at a cost of £15,000 resulted in a glowing overall report. Built for ocean voyaging and now brought up to an unusually impressive condition, value was considered to be nearly £40,000. We consider that minor refurbishment now required will recover exterior condition and that present asking is very competitive at £16,450 or near offer. Owner comments - major refit 2012, full details supplied as part of a survey. All items in survey rectified at cost approaching £16,000. Included lifting engine and changing engine mounts. Once works completed, resurveyed with excellent report. In my ownership: New alternator, two new batteries, new stern gland greaser, new exhaust hoses, alterations to running rigging, rigging surveyed, new fuel supply lines and filter. Some sails and covers repaired and cleaned with new zips to covers. Small deck repair with short new teak section of deck plank and repairs to corner joint on coaming. Rope clutch added to mast to assist in using winch. Spent five weeks cruising along Atlantic French coast this year without any problems in all sorts of weather, sailing single-handed. Engine worked faultlessly throughout. (New VHF aerial and new hinges to forward hatch to be fitted prior to purchase). Reason for selling - vaving reached the grand age of 70 and now retired I am downsizing. Will be very sorry to part with Galago as she is a one-off traditional yacht built for long-distance sailing in comfort. The construction and materials are exceptional and if looked after she will continue for many years and is a tribute to the skills of the designer Paul Gartside and shipwright Alan Nicholas. She was built at Gweek, Helston. SSR 166845Lucas Yachting are yacht brokers representing boats throughout the UK.
