"Catriona" has an old-world elegance about her below decks as well as above with simple accommodations in 2 staterooms. An additional crew's quarters is separate and forward of the main salon. The finish is done Herreshoff style with teak sole accented by varnished teak trim on white flat panels. Twelve (12) opening ports in the owner's quarters and four (4) hatches, all with screening bring excellent cross ventilation. At night, lighting is provided by 12-volt reading lamps at all berths and settees and there are a number of overhead dome lamps as well.
Starting forward in the owner's quarters are spacious owner's and guest staterooms that essentially mirror one another. Generous double berths with some bin type storage and lockers under. Aft of each berth is a bureau with 2 drawers and a locker under. The starboard stateroom has a hanging locker inboard of the berth.
The Main Salon is especially bright and airy. Fwd and to port is a large hanging locker that is deep enough to have shelves outboard. Aft of the hanging locker is an L-Settee with storage behind the settee back and on a shelf with a fiddle above. There is bin type storage under the settee. Dining is from a large varnished teak drop leaf table that has 2 large drawers fitted at each end. Opposite the settee is a bureau with 3 drawers and a locker under and a drop face locker over. Just aft of the bureau is a second hanging locker. Continuing aft on the starboard side is a very generous navigation station. The yacht's electrical distribution panels and navigation equipment are mounted above the flip-top chart table. Below the table, there is a chart drawer and a storage locker and there are three drawers just aft.
Across from the Nav. Station, to port, is the U-shaped Galley where old meets new. The galley has all the amenities one might need for cruising including; Grunert holding plate equipped refrigeration and freezer boxes, Force 10 4 burners gimbaled propane stove with oven and GE Microwave, wide Corian countertops provide an abundance of workspace as well as storage below in 2 drawers and 2 lockers as well as a flip-out trash bin and a drop face locker under the stove. Outboard at the head of the U are dish racks.
The Third Stateroom or crew's quarters are accessed from on deck hatch forward and feature a V-berth, a Corian vanity aft and to starboard with lockers over and under, sink with pressure H&C water. Aft on C/L is a manual W.C. 2 opening ports in the house.
The aft to starboard head has a Corian vanity and sink with pressure H&C water, manual W.C. plumbed via Y valve to a holding tank, & shower
Varnished Sitka Spruce keel-stepped spars with 1 X 19 wire rigging.
The primary navigation electronics and communications equipment is located at the navigation station at the foot of the companionway with some repeaters carefully housed in varnished teak joiner work, so as to be unobtrusive, in the cockpit.
Wired for both 12 Volt DC and 110 Volt AC service. The yacht is fitted with a Prosine inverter for lighter loads off the dock while a 3.8KW Genset handles larger loads.
Yanmar 150 HP diesel turns a 23" 3 bladed max prop set @ 14.8" of pitch through a Twin Disc 2.44:1 gear on a 1 1/2" shaft
White hull with blue boot top and lt. gray bulwark aft. Hull finish is Z-spar Semigloss. The bottom is painted with Interlux Ocean Blue. Housetops are awl gripped Desert Sand. All exterior varnished surfaces are finished with Awlspar spar varnish.
In Typical Herreshoff style, the cockpit has a beautiful elliptical shape with ample seating for a large party for daysailing. Sail/gear lockers Port and Starboard. Beautifully wide side decks provide easy access fore and aft. Thwartship passages between the machinery house and accommodation house. All exterior decking is laid teak, deck houses are solid teak as well. The builder took great pains to replicate all specifications of the original BOUNTY. All hardware was cast as per L. Francis Herreshoff's original drawings by Mystic Valley Foundry. Attention to every small detail was made including matching sail covers, dodger ( to be installed) radar dome, etc. Hardware was all cast to match original Herreshoff designs.
Double planked Silver Bali over Cedar on epoxy laminated Douglas Fir frames and Angelique timbers with white oak backbone with bronze everdure fastenings. Decks are 3/8" teak deck overlay epoxy glued on a 5/8" marine plywood subdeck with an inner deck of 5/8" tongue and groove cedar on white oak deck beams. To improve tankage & storage and lower the center of gravity bronze floors were made up in lieu of timber. The lead carpenter from the yard was sent to the country of origin for all of the planking and timbers and selected the trees as they stood full-length planking and timbers for construction. There are no butt blocks or scarf joints in the bottom of the boat.
Simple beauty was the hallmark of L. Francis Herreshoff's designs. This vessel has been kept virtually 100% true to her creator's intention; only minor changes have been made from the original plans to improve storage, etc. All of the moldings, carvings, rigging, etc. were completed as the designer specified. A number of other yachts have been built to the design but This vessel is the one built closest to what L. Francis's hand put to paper; The attention to every detail that has gone into this superb yacht is impressive. Research as to original canvas colors etc. to match her as closely as possible to the original BOUNTY to name but one item. If you ever wanted to step back in time and enjoy one of sailings greatest vessels, here is your opportunity.
