Accommodation

The accommodation offers up to five berths in two cabins, with full standing headroom.  In the forecabin, V berth with stowage under.  Opening hatch to foredeck.  Separate heads compartment to starboard with marine toilet and washbasin.  In saloon, two settee berths with pilot berth outboard.  Opening hatch to deck.  Fixed table with drop leaves. Chart table to port with galley opposite.  Force 10 gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven.  Sink with manually pumped water supply.  35 gallon freshwater capacity.  Refrigerator.

Mechanical Systems

Located behind the companionway, Beta Marine BV1505 four cylinder 37.5hp diesel engine, installed new in 2005.  300 engine hours.  Electric start.  Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger.  Shaft drive to three bladed folding propeller.  25 gallon fuel capacity in stainless steel tank giving approximately 250 mile range at 5 knot cruising speed.  Maximum speed under power 6.5 knots.  Single lever control.

Construction

Built by Uphams in 1967 to a design by Kim Holman.  White painted GRP hull with gold cove line.  Teak toe rail.  Wooden superstructure with teak laid decks and varnished teak coamings.  Long keel with encapsulated lead ballast. Keel hung rudder.  Wheel steering.  Aft self draining cockpit.  Cariacou was built by Uphams in Devon; designed by Kim Holman, built by Jack Holman and first owned by John Holman.  The boat was completely refurbished by Bruce Thorogood in 2005, including a new engine, new deck and new sails.
