The J110 from J Boats is a rarity, only 16 boats were built in a 2 year period. This blue hulled J/110 , with only 3 owners from new, was designed to be built to be a very capable racer (short-handed or fully crewed), but also to be a comfortable family cruiser. Just launched after her usual winter ashore, this J/110 has stripped to the gel coat & ready for copper coat or anti fouling This J/110 has been well maintained and upgraded over the year's, such as 2021 rod rigging, 2018 performance main and genoa sails, 2021 sprayhood, 2021 Raymarine Axion plotter. Construction and Mechanical
CONSTRUCTION Builder: J Boats Designer: Rod Johnstone J/110's performance is a function of low vertical center of gravity (VCG), a narrow waterline, draft and a higher sail area to displacement ratio. A key contributor to lowering weight in the design is high-tech Baltek laminate construction with 65-70% glass content from TPI's patented SCRIMP resin-infusion process. With deep fin lead keel and spade rudder. Deck with wheel steering and the cockpit is designed specifically with short handed sailing in mind. All the halyards and reefing lines are led after to coachroof winches and the Genoa plus main sheet winches all within reach of the helm. The sense of spaciousness is created by J/110's classic American cruising yacht decor: "Antique white" panels beautifully trimmed in cold-molded teak. Forward cabin with V berths and an infill to create a double berth, under berth storage, storage drawers, hanging locker. Door to heads compartment for use as en-suite. Retractable bow sprit above starboard bunk. Large opening deck hatch for light and ventilation with removable sun shade. Door from cabin leading through to saloon with heads compartment door to port, L shaped settee to port, bench settee to starboard with sculpted backrest cushions, blue Alcantara upholstery. Both settees can be used as single berths with lee cloths fitted. Storage space behind settee backrests and also under starboard settee. Central dining table with drop leaves. L shaped galley to port, aft facing chart table to starboard, aft of this, bi-fold door to aft cabin with a double berth, storage and opening portlight to the cockpit. OWNERS COMMENTS AND SERVICE HISTORY The boat has been lifted to shore for winter storage every year from new. Hull finished in original blue gelcoat. Topsides De-oxidised and polished 2024 Underwater Hull stripped to gelcoat 2024 , two coats for copper-coating to be applied. Underwater anodes including Max Prop anode, propeller shaft anode and Isotherm fridge anode, replaced.2024 This J/110 has been cruised around Scotland, including St Kilda, Ireland and also Brittany, France and the Baltic Sea through the years by her three owners. Owners Comment Jumblies (named after the Edward Lear poem about overcoming adversity and doing things people say you can’t) is a yacht for those who want to sail! She is easy to handle short-handed including with the kite up in all conditions and is an absolute joy to sail on all points of sail easily making 7.5kts upwind with great VMGs. With only sixteen yachts built in a two year period, the J/110 is quite rare. Originally this boat was specified to be a performance cruiser for local racing but was also designed and built to be comfortable for family cruising. Only three owners from new, this J/110 has been well maintained and upgraded through the years. Jumblies competed successfully in the Scottish Series, Islands Peak Race, and local Clyde races as Skerryvore and Bluebird. She has been cruised extensively with family and friends aboard and is light and spacious below deck.
