Johan Anker considered an artist among yacht designers, was greatly concerned with the beauty of lines. ILMEN is a perfect example of his passion for shape and measuring just under 50 ft on deck is also perhaps the perfect size. In the same ownership for 20 years her careful preservation closely defines her classic yacht credentials.

History
Designed by Johan Anker in 1931, ILMEN was built by Anker & Jensen in Asker in 1932.
She displays an anchor arrow at the bow, the cove line continued aft terminating with a rose at the stern; a detail that the first owner ordered specially from Johan Anker. From an article in a 1932 edition of the National Sail magazine:
"Anker & Jensen built the beautiful Cruising boat for the experienced sailor Leif Svinndal. This is the boat no. 4 in the series of 5 boats for Leif. This construction is larger and far more solid than previous boats. ILMEN has a displacement of about 12 tons with half the weight in the lead keel. It was built as a flush deck with two skylights and a deep cockpit where you can sit comfortably and protected. Only the best materials were used, teak hull underwater and Oregon pine above and all hatches, cockpit and deck trim in mahogany. "
Construction and Finish
- Original hull and considered to be in remarkable condition
- 25 mm thick teak planking below waterline
- 25 mm thick Oregon pine planking topsides
- Transom changed to teak when stem and deck remade
- The hull is white with gold stripe
- Steel ribs; most of which changed to A4 stainless steel
- Extensive use of stainless bolts – and all below the waterline thus changed minimising rust
