DESCRIPTION

At the time of construction, FRUITION ranked as the largest and fastest of Chuck Paine’s Bermuda series.  She was designed and built for the present owner as a replacement for his previous 67ft aluminium ketch, which he had personally sailed in a circumnavigation.  Ketch rig was still his choice and the new yacht had to be fast so weight-saving was an important consideration.

Thus FRUITION has a long 73ft/22.45m waterline, which increases by about 4ft/1.22m as soon as she moves.  The only teak laid area on deck is the cockpit.  A huge weight saving is made by opting for a non-slip treated aluminium deck, which has the further benefit of keeping the accommodation - not to mention the crew’s feet - much cooler in the tropics.  The owner is a hands-on sailor and so FRUITION has large diameter steering wheels driving chain and wire to the rudder quadrant, producing the “feel” that helmsmen appreciate.

FRUITION has excellent deck space with a truly vast aft deck where her big RIB is stowed on passage.  For those overnight stops at anchor, the RIB can be hoisted out of the water by the spinnaker halyard to swing against the starboard topside against a couple of fenders.

The cockpit is a delight: good to look at and practical and comfortable in use.  It is provided with a great dining table and fixed Bimini and a folding sprayhood forward.
FRUITION excels with an enormous raised saloon area with dining table, good windows and a chart table of considerable area.

The cabin accommodation throughout is extremely comfortable, affording good privacy for both the owner’s party and the crew, of whom 3 can be accommodated.

FRUITION has circumnavigated one Atlantic Crossing and spent the rest of her time cruising the Mediterranean.

Fittings include Gröhe shower head/hose and mixer tap to basin, vanity unit and mirror.
Vacuflush head.
Medium sized overhead hatch with roller blind / insect screen.
This compartment is accessed from either the captain’s cabin or by a separate door from the crew dinette / single berth area.

Crew CABIN
The twin berth crew cabin is situated to starboard of a fore and aft partition which is set slightly to port of the centreline, to provide additional space within the cabin.  The cabin is virtually identical to the twin guest cabins, as to layout, appointments etc. and these are described later.  There are 4 large drawers beneath each berth and a medium / large sized hatch overhead, fitted with a roller blind / insect screen.  Outboard is a hull window.
Between the crew quarters and the galley is a water tight door, through a watertight bulkhead.

To Port there are two berths, one with mattress, the other used as storage/recycling area.
There are 2 hull windows in way of the dinette.  Wardrobe fitted to the forward bulkhead adjacent to it.  A door inboard forward, accesses the crew head/shower compartment.  A medium size hatch next to wardrobe has a light screen / insect roller screen. A medium/large hatch has a fold up stainless steel access ladder beneath, with lower end set onto a locker unit.
On the panel behind the ladder is a telephone, a Raytheon MFD and VHF RT.  Also a fire extinguisher.
Aft of ladder/locker unit are stacked a Miele Novotronic 490 clothes dryer and a Miele Novotronic W844 clothes washer/spin dryer.  Above is a large locker used for cooking pot storage.  A doorway aft leads into the galley on the port side.

GALLEY
Outboard, double stainless steel sinks are fitted into a worktop positioned below 2 hull windows.  There are various storage lockers outboard above the worktop, a built in microwave/convection oven adjacent and a custom refrigerator and linked cold storage compartment aft.  A spice rack is fitted to the fore side of the refrigerator.  Fire blanket on forward bulkhead.

The galley is separated from the lower dining saloon by a fore and aft dividing unit, which on its galley side is fitted with a range of appliances, including twin electric hobs with a cupboard below  (as described under heading DOMESTIC EQUIPMENT).  Also a row of suspended cupboards above the cooker unit.  At the aft end of the galley is the access door to the engine room and a walk-way across to the dining saloon and the steps to the deck saloon

LOWER DINING SALOON
The lower dining saloon, to starboard opposite the galley, has banquette seating outboard in the form of an elongated letter C around a fixed table finished to the same style as the deck saloon table (described later).  The table pedestal forms a wine locker.  Two directors chairs may be placed at the inboard side so as to seat 6/7 persons to dine.  A double hull window is located over the outboard seating.  A framed photograph of the owner’s previous yacht is mounted on the forward bulkhead and will be retained by the owner.  To the inboard side of the forward bulkhead is a display cabinet containing marine models.  Next to that a Honeywell air con/heating thermostatic controls.  Inboard is the starboard side of the dividing unit from the galley, which includes a locker chest with suspended lockers above.  The lower lockers store beverages etc. One locker contains the oil tank for the hydraulic bow thruster  The suspended lockers are arranged to store a 20” TV, and drinking glasses.
A custom built freezer is installed below the dining saloon sole.  In the bilge are the 2 bow thruster electric motors

RAISED SALOON / PILOTHOUSE
With large windows fitted all round and 2 big overhead hatches, the saloon benefits from an abundance of light. At its fore end the saloon integrates with the lower saloon and galley, which combines with its generous width and excellent headroom in creating an impression of space.  To port a semi-circular dinette is set on a plinth affording seated persons a clear view of the yacht’s surroundings.  The seat cushions and scatter cushions tone with the curtain material.
The semi-circular dining table is beautifully made with a pale birds-eye maple top, separated by a 1/4″ black line from a rounded American cherry perimeter.  The table is fitted with an ingenious system, by which its central section can be folded down and the outer sections pushed together to reduce the table’s size and improve access in daytime use.  Just inboard is a rotary barograph.  Fire extinguisher below chart table.

To starboard is a large chart table approximately 63″/1.6m fore and aft, and a  30″/1.76m athwartships.
Single seats at either end match the dinette upholstery.
The chart table pedestal forms a 4-drawer unit able to contain a large number of paper charts etc.  The bottom drawer, deeper than the others, contains the yacht’s suspended filing system.
Above the chart table is a long green instrument facia.  Equipment fitted to the facia, is listed in the INSTRUMENT section of these particulars.

AFT PASSAGEWAY.
From the raised saloon six steps with a double rail stainless steel banister alongside, lead down to the aft passageway.  These steps can easily be removed, to reveal an aluminium panel in the aft engine room bulkhead, which accesses the Hundested propeller gearbox.

Below the forward section of the passageway sole is the access facility to the inboard propeller shaft bearing / gland mounted on rubber hose to ‘float’.  This forward bilge section is covered by a clear plastic viewing panel secured to the floor structure in way.

Below the mid-section is a gravity fed shower sump with float switch to activate automatic pumping of contents to a grey water tank.  Below the aft section are two Sealand vacuum generators which deliver waste from the guest cabin heads to the black water tanks / or to sea.  Another in the lazarette serves the owner’s head.

A lockable linen cupboard is sited at the aft end of the passageway to starboard and 5 framed pictures decorate the area.  The guest cabins are accessed from this passageway.

The PORT GUEST CABIN has twin berths with 2 large drawers beneath the aft end of inboard berth, 2 dummy drawer fronts beneath the forward end, with house batteries behind, and 2 large foot lockers beneath the outboard berth.  Between the berths is a bedside table/drawer unit, with a high fiddle around a birds-eye maple table top, 2 reading lights and a Sony CD player with 2 bookshelves above.  At a higher level are 2 large lockers.  On the inboard bulkhead over the starboard berth are 2 shelves with fiddle rails.  Outboard are 2 hull windows, and beneath, a long shelf with fiddle rail.  A 5-drawer chest at the foot of the outboard berth has a fiddled birds-eye maple top. Next aft is a wardrobe which has a picture and a thermostat to its fore side.  Also fitted are 2 air fans and fire extinguisher.  In a deck head trunking is a small opening hatch with pull out light/insect screen

PORT GUEST HEAD/SHOWER COMPARTMENT
A door in the aft bulkhead leads into the en-suite head/shower compartment which has inboard a separate shower stall, completely lined with Surrell, and with the entrance opening edge trimmed with the same material.  There is a removable varnished teak and maple sole panel sitting on a stainless shower tray.  Shower curtain on rail.  Surrell topped vanity unit with fitted hand basin and Gröhe mixer tap, beneath a large mirror.  Outboard is a Vacuflush head with storage lockers over beneath a hull window.  Sole in head area is of reconstituted marble tiles with other surfaces lined in white laminate.

The STARBOARD GUEST CABIN and HEAD/SHOWER compartment are a mirror image of the port side guest cabin and head/shower.

Furthest aft is the OWNER’S STATEROOM with centreline double berth is positioned head end to the aft bulkhead beneath a large framed picture, which is provided with a picture light.  Four good drawers are built-in to the forward end of the berth and a bedside table / locker, with a deep fiddle around a bird’s eye maple table surface, is fitted to either side of the head of the berth.  Each table has a drawer and a lower cupboard.  A swing-out reading light is fitted above each table.
To port of the berth is a long chest with 2 good drawers and 2 cupboards.  The chest’s table surface has a fiddled edge, and a bookcase is fitted at the aft end.  Next forward is a kneehole desk, which also serves as a dressing table.  This has 7 drawers in the desk pedestals / top and above, 2 double mirror-fronted cupboard doors open to reveal a Samsung Sync Master 170 TV within.
A swing-out stainless steel framed seat with Alcantara covered seat/backrest rotates neatly to stow under the table when not in use.
On the forward bulkhead, to port and adjacent to the desk, is a large double doored wardrobe with a Honeywell thermostat to its inboard face and a framed Barbuda picture above.
The mizzen mast passes down to its step adjacent to the door from the aft passageway, and is fitted with a Velcro-fastened Alcantara mast coat.  An air fan is fitted to the deck head close to the mast.
To starboard is a comfortable settee.  A shelf surface outboard and above the settee has a lift up trap in the shelf to access a useful locker.  At the aft end of the shelf is a bookcase, and adjacent, a fire extinguisher.
Between the settee and the starboard side of the double berth is a 7 stepped accommodation staircase, with a substantial stainless steel handrail to either side.  This gives direct access to the aft deck, via a large Lewmar hatch.  A large section of the staircase can hinge forward to access a locker in which could be stowed travel bags, boots etc.  Another Lewmar hatch is fitted over the double berth.  Two slightly smaller hatches are fitted further forward.
All hatches have roller blinds / mosquito screens.
In the starboard forward corner of the stateroom is the partition wall of the head shower compartment with a framed picture to the left of the ventilated entrance door.
A pair of hull windows is fitted to either side of the stateroom.

OWNER’S HEAD / SHOWER COMPARTMENT
