The Peter Duck is a classic East Coast design from Laurent Giles, evolved from the original 'Peter Duck' built for Arthur Ransome of Swallows and Amazons fame! They combine surprisingly spacious cruising accommodation, shallow draft, comfortable performance and a sea kindly manner, all within an easily managed and maintained size. 'Bar Goose' is believed to be unique within her class, originally built for her first owner who was very tall she has slightly taller topsides and superstructure making her even more spacious below decks! She also benefits from never being sheathed and is in good solid condition thanks to regular maintenance from her experienced owner. If you are looking for a charming classic yacht with a comfortable cruising interior she is well worth consideration!

Construction

Peter Duck (number 25) built in 1964 by Porter & Haylett, to a design by Laurent Giles, modified for her first owner and mentioned in the Laurent Giles archives. Light blue painted hull (topsides repainted June 2019) with dark blue sheer line. Iroko planking on oak frames with varnished coamings and copper fastenings. Teak laid decks (wide planks for reduced maintenance) over plywood sub decks. Varnished superstructure with sheathed coachroof and painted non-slip surfaces. Long keel with cast iron ballast. Tiller steering to keel hung rudder. Aft self draining cockpit. Iroko bulwarks replaced 2005.

Bar Gooose has been in her current ownership for over ten years and has benefited from regular refits and general maintenance from her experienced owner who is an engineer and shipwright. Unlike many of her class there is no evidence she was ever Cascover sheathed which may account for her very solid and original hull condition as any issues can be spotted and remedied before they become major problems. Apart from servicing the engine, rigging and systems annually many improvements have been made to ensure she remains in good condition. The last of these were carried out across the winter of 2018/19 and include re-sheathing the upper coachroof, stripping and varnishing the booms and resheathing and encapsulating the cockpit with new cockpit drains. Her topsides have also recently been repainted and she comes across as a well maintained and regularly used classic cruising yacht, an ideal starting point for her future owner!
