TRAVEL AGENT is a fine example of the Hood/Little Harbor 51 Series, boasting many unique and compelling features. The pilothouse design provides owner and guests’ protection from the elements, with unrestricted views in all directions. The cockpit is also uniquely designed to lead all sail controls to the helm for unmatched short-handed capability – seldom found on other aft-cockpit designs. And her rare shallow draft of only 5’, combined with her proven Hood-designed low-wetted surface hull, hydrodynamic centerboard with balanced spade retractable rudder and powerful sail plan, provide exceptional performance and access to more diverse shallow cruising grounds. Lastly, the deck is designed for minimal maintenance, and the walk-in engine room makes for easier mechanical work. Now with only her second owner, TRAVEL AGENT has been consistently maintained to a high standard and has completed many equipment upgrades and replacements as noted herein.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND LAYOUT

TRAVEL AGENT sleeps four in two private cabins, plus two in the pilothouse and two in the main salon, with two separate heads and a very open layout for comfortable cruising. The interior is finished in a combination of white Formica, solid cherry trim, varnished cherry main bulkheads (much was newly added in 2019), and solid flat-paneled locker fronts. Cabin soles are varnished teak and holly, with varnished cherry hull ceilings and fabric overhead panels.

PILOTHOUSE

One step down from the main cockpit, one enters the enclosed pilothouse that features seating for up to six. There is an L-shaped settee to port with up/down varnished cherry table that can convert to an on-deck double berth with mattress filler piece. To starboard is a full-length settee with built-in nav station and varnished cherry chart table forward. This unique space is comfortable, safe from the elements, climate-controlled with heat/AC, and quite airy with superb visibility in all directions. Overhead hatches, opening front windshield and numerous fixed windows provide excellent natural light and ventilation. In good conditions, the rear curtains can be opened to provide one large indoor/outdoor living space under sail or at anchor. Secondary access to the engine room and generator is through the lift-up starboard settee.

GALLEY

Stepping down from the pilothouse, one finds a functional wrap-around galley to starboard with generous storage and counter space.

Features include:

  • Sandstone Corian countertops
  • Double stainless steel sinks
  • Moen faucet
  • Manual backup faucet
  • Large front-loading refrigerator and top-loading freezer
  • Force 10 3-burner stove with oven and broiler, and (2) propane tanks
  • Microwave oven
  • Numerous drawers and storage lockers, including overhead cabinetry

GUEST STATEROOM

The guest stateroom is opposite the galley to port, featuring upper and lower berths, bureau, and hanging locker.

GUEST/DAY HEAD

The guest head is adjacent to the guest cabin, with private access from the cabin or via a second door opposite the galley for convenient use as day head. There is a toilet, wash basin and wet locker. In addition, a door leads aft to the walk-in engine room for easy access to all machinery and equipment located below the pilothouse.

MAIN SALON

Forward of the galley and guest cabin is the spacious full-beam main salon that features a large oval dinette to starboard with centerline settee that includes bar storage, varnished cherry countertop and additional drawers. To port is another full-length settee with backrest that flips up to provide a second sea berth. Highlights include two brass electric lanterns on forward bulkheads. There are (2) deck hatches, (5) opening portholes and (4) fixed Lexan hull ports. Due to the hull design, there is a surprising amount of storage space below and behind all settees. For entertainment, there is a 22” LCD TV, VCR/DVD player and an all new (2019) Fusion stereo system with amplifier and three pairs of speakers for cockpit, pilothouse and salon.

MASTER STATEROOM

The master stateroom is forward, with a V-berth configuration featuring two large berths that can be converted to a double (new mattress, 2017). The cabin is unusually large for a yacht of this size and provides exceptional storage and floor area. There are bureaus each side with numerous drawers, lockers and (2) hanging lockers. A large deck hatch and (2) opening portholes provide great light and ventilation.

MASTER HEAD

There is a private ensuite head to port with toilet, wash basin, deck hatch and opening porthole. Opposite to starboard is an ensuite shower with built-in seat, deck hatch and opening porthole.

HULL

The hull is molded in FRP with 1" Airex foam core for added strength, impact resistance, and sound/thermal insulation. Vinylester resin is used throughout for the highest possible resistance to water osmosis. Hull is white gelcoat with gold cove, double blue boot stripe and blue bottom. Bottom stripped, with new epoxy barrier (2017).

All ballast is of pre-cast lead sections fully encapsulated by the fiberglass hull and keel. The lead is covered with approximately 3/8" solid FRP to create, in effect, a "double hull" for additional protection in case of a serious grounding.

Structural bulkheads are fiberglass with balsa core. Divisional bulkheads are built of marine-grade waterproof plywood. All structural bulkheads are bonded to the hull and deck with FRP and PVC foam spacers. Chainplates are made of 316 stainless flat bar weldments thru-bolted to reinforced FRP foundations attached to hull. The structural bulkhead forward of the owner's stateroom is watertight to act as a collision bulkhead. Rubrail is molded in with stainless steel striker.

Fuel and water tanks are built of molded FRP. All tanks are fully baffled with ample inspection ports, and the water tanks are coated with FDA-approved gelcoat to ensure good taste and low odor.

The custom rudder is retractable for access to shallow waters and can be easily raised or lowered via a simple hoist system in the cockpit. Centerboard configuration offers minimum draft of 5’ with board up and maximum draft of 11’-8” with board down.
