It features a full beam master suite with his and her bathrooms, providing a relaxed experience with up to 2 crew onboard. Refitted in 2020, BANDOL combines American design with exceptional spaciousness for a truly luxurious voyage.
OverviewMeet the stunning BANDOL, a luxurious 78E expedition vessel crafted by Marlow. Completed in 2006, it underwent a stylish interior refit in 2019/20 to maintain its modern elegance. BANDOL can comfortably host up to 10 guests in 4 suites, including a lavish VIP stateroom and a spacious master suite with his and her bathrooms. It can accommodate two crew members in a separate cabin aft.
The salon is elegantly designed with teak and holly floors and satin finished teak cabinetry. Built-in seating accommodates 8 adults, with additional space in the adjacent dining room. BANDOL can comfortably entertain a large group. A new 52-inch flat screen TV is positioned directly across from the U-shaped salon seating. The TV can be viewed in the lowered position while at sea or raised when at anchor or in port. The large coffee table is adjustable in height for casual dining. The salon is well lit with overhead 24V lights, rope lighting, table lamps, and 24V LED wall sconces. A Bose surround sound system is installed in the main salon for music or TV viewing.
Dining Room/BarThe dining room features a U-shaped seating area with chairs on the in-board port end of the table. The table comfortably seats 6-8 and has a leaf for larger gatherings. Built-in seats lift to reveal ample storage for provisions for long voyages. Forward buffet cabinets securely store dishes and glassware at sea. A full wet bar with sink, wine cooler, and clear ice machine is located directly across from the dining table.
Galley/PilothouseThe galley is a few steps up from the salon and dining area. The pilothouse is forward of the galley, providing great views when preparing meals and navigating. The U-shaped galley is equipped with all the amenities of a proper home kitchen, featuring numerous storage cabinets and drawers for extended cruising. A new pure white quartz stone countertop brightens the area and adds a modern touch.
Galley Equipment includes:
The staterooms are located a few steps down a curved staircase from the wheelhouse and galley level. The master stateroom, located aft down a short corridor, features a king bed with new (2021) mattresses and soft goods, positioned centerline with his-and-hers heads directly behind, featuring an enclosed shared shower accessible from both sides. Each head includes a sink, storage cabinets, drawers, a VacuFlush head, and mirrors.
The stateroom is finished in satin teak, with 6 stainless-steel opening portlights concealed by sliding shoji screens. A comfortable desk with a built-in swing-out stool and lighting is located on the forward wall. A large flat screen Sony TV is mounted on the forward bulkhead, and an upholstered settee to starboard provides additional storage. Lighted cedar-lined hanging lockers are located to port and starboard. Varnished Teak and holly floors are throughout. The bathrooms feature Vacuflush heads, opening port lights, and Grohe faucets and shower fittings, with quality marble vanities.
VIP StateroomThe VIP Stateroom is located a few steps toward the bow and midships, with headroom close to 7'. The king-size centerline bed allows easy access from either side. A wall-mounted flat panel TV with its own DirecTV receiver and stereo system is included. Above the main berth, on either side, are good-sized bunk beds suitable for small children or storage. This stateroom has a full-size head and separate shower, finished with Grohe sink and shower fixtures, a VacuFlush head, and marble countertops. The stateroom features a Sharp flat screen TV, new (2021) custom king-size mattress, overhead 24V lights, indirect rope lights, and twin reading lamps. A large lighted cedar-lined hanging locker and 6 large drawers are located under the berth.
Port Guest StateroomThe port side guest stateroom features two comfortable single berths with a built-in nightstand with drawers between them. The full-size head with separate shower has marble countertops with Grohe fixtures. The stateroom is finished in satin teak, with new mattresses from 2021. A flat screen TV is fitted to the bulkhead, connected to DirecTV and stereo.
Starboard Bunk RoomThis stateroom is located at the base of the curved stairway from the wheelhouse/galley level. The bunks are appropriately sized for adults, with new mattresses from 2021. The room includes a TV, large drawers, and a hanging locker. Guests in this stateroom can access the VIP bathroom from the hallway. There are two opening port lights.
Crew CabinThe crew cabin features two side-by-side bunks to comfortably accommodate 2. It includes its own head and shower, as well as a microwave and refrigerator. A new flat screen TV is fitted on a flexible mount. Access to the crew cabin is available from the aft port corner of the main salon down a short staircase or via the large opening watertight transom door.
A full-size washer & dryer is fitted in the crew cabin.
Engine RoomThe C-18 engines power this vessel to cruise at speeds typically achieved by larger, heavier, and more costly V-12 engines. This smaller package also provides a spacious engine room. There are twin 25kW Northern Lights generators that are easy to service. The engine room is well lit and ventilated with 4 fans, featuring a fire suppression system, fore and aft bilge pumps, and high water alarms.
The engine room is air-conditioned, and the bilges are fully finished for easy maintenance. The C-18's are mounted on soft mounts to isolate vibration, and the Aquadrive shaft couplings further reduce vibration, keeping noise low and preserving shaft alignment.
ElectronicsBANDOL is equipped with redundant electronics to ensure safety in case of failure. The current owners enjoyed miles of trouble-free cruising with the assurance that the systems would keep them safe. Fuel levels are checked with a simple sight glass in the engine room. The panel above the wheel includes the inverter monitoring system controls, electronic breakers, and digital battery monitors. Bow and stern thruster controls are located at the helm and flybridge. The total height with the radar mast folded is only 20'.
Lower HelmThe upper and lower deck areas are clad in teak, which is in good condition. BANDOL is a very safe yacht with handholds throughout, high bulwarks, wide side decks, beautiful teak cap rails, and secure access to the bow from the Portuguese bridge. A watertight transom door provides access to a lazarette technical and storage area, leading to the crew cabin and further to the engine room.
Marlow Yachts are limited production semi-custom yachts built with stringent quality control procedures. The Marlow Explorer 78E is a popular design built for long-range self-contained cruising in comfort and safety. The proprietary strut keel protects the running gear from debris and floating lines offshore and from serious damage due to accidental grounding inshore. BANDOL’s shafts are fitted with Spurs to cut through lines that may be encountered on buoys or floating freely, avoiding tangling in the propellers.
Construction utilizes the best components such as Dupont Kevlar and CoreCell for the hull, deck, and superstructure, making BANDOL a quiet and strong vessel. Vinylester and epoxy resins and glues are used throughout. Mechanical equipment like Aquadrive constant velocity joints on the shafts ensure minimal vibrations and additional quiet operation while underway. Tide seals ensure a constantly dry bilge and smooth operation. Trace inverters allow for silent nights in quiet anchorages. The hand-finished interior features quality brands like Sub Zero, Dacor, Asko, Bosch, Franke, Grohe, and similar. Fine fabrics of ultra-leather and other top brands grace the interior.
