DESCRIPTION

The MG HS30 is a highly capable and well-proven half tonner designed by Rob Humphreys. Silver Fox has been highly modified to improve performance whilst making her easier to sail, with a swept-back rig, Hugh Welbourne lead keel, and relocated engine. Well presented with fresh topside paint and offered for sale with many recent upgrades including sails and navigation equipment, ready to go racing!

Accommodation

Simple accommodation provides up to 6 berths, with pipecots aft, bunk berths and lower berths amidships. The forepeak consists of a marine toilet and good space for sail stowage. A chart table, hanging locker, and compact galley area with portable gas stove complete the simple interior, with white painted surfaces and durable furnishings ideal for low maintenance racing sailing.

Mechanical Systems

Yanmar 2GM20 2-cylinder 18hp diesel engine, relocated in 2012 aft under companionway to improve weight distribution. Seawater cooled. Single lever controls with electric start. Stainless steel 20L (approx.) fuel tank. Shaft drive to 2-bladed folding propeller.

Electrical Systems

2 x 12v Batteries charged via engine alternator. Electrical distribution panel (new 2020 inc wiring) with 12v socket.

Spars and Sails

Fractionally rigged sloop. Z-Spars keel stepped swept back double spreader aluminium mast and boom (new 2002). Z-Spars rod kicker (new 2002). Spinnaker pole. Stainless steel standing rigging (new 2002) with adjustable backstay. Performance running rigging with many new Dyneema halyards. All lines led aft to cockpit via clutches. 2 x Self-tailing sheet winches. 2 x Halyard winches.

Whilst still retaining the visual appeal of carbon laminate sails, the performance Dacron sail wardrobe has been designed to allow for easy sail handling and longer term durability, keeping running costs realistic, but still offering great performance, ideal for club racing.

Construction

MG HS30 built approx. 1984 to a Rob Humphreys design. GRP hull, painted in light grey with 4 coats of International 2-pack epoxy in 2020. White GRP superstructure and decks with grey painted non-slip surfaces. Modified with Hugh Welbourn low centre of gravity lead fin keel (new 2000). Tiller steering to spade hung rudder. Tiller extension.
