Shooting Star Overview

Shooting Star has many recent upgrades:

  • 10/24 New EVA flooring in the pilot house (should be installed by 11/1)
  • 9/24 New Polycarbonate windows in the pilot house
  • 4/24 New Bottom Paint
  • 1/24 New Colligo Dynice Dux Upper and Lower Shrouds
  • 2023 New Doyle Straits Jib
  • 2022 All New B&G electronics

Shooting Star is a 2007 Morrelli & Melvin design, known for its minimalist, fast, yet cruising-capable offshore catamarans. Built to sail, it offers comfort and equipment for extended cruising. Performance is enhanced with long slender hulls, a carbon fiber mast, and daggerboards.

One unique feature is the central command station, where all sailing controls and steering are located behind the mast inside the cabin. This design provides visibility benefits without exposing the cabin to weather. While a purist sailboat, it is designed for comfortable cruising without sacrificing performance.

The bridge deck cabin features 360-degree views with various opening windows and a sliding convertible roof. For climate control, Espar Airtronic cabin heaters and Cruiseair air conditioning ensure comfort in various conditions. Shooting Star is suitable for sailing in sunny Bahamas or foggy Maine.

The galley has ample countertop space (13 outboard and 5 inboard), fridge/freezer space for extended cruising, a 3-burner propane stove, and plenty of cabinet space for storage. Power needs while off the grid are met with cabin top solar, large Balmar alternators on each engine, and a Watt & Sea hydro generator. An additional upgrade includes bow thrusters for easier docking.

Shooting Star's construction features S-glass/Kevlar/carbon reinforcement in high load areas, foam core, and epoxy resin. S-glass is approximately 30% stronger than E-glass and more impact resistant than carbon. The interior is kept light and simple with faired and painted surfaces, avoiding liners that could add weight or mold.

The current owner has enjoyed Shooting Star from the Eastern Caribbean to Maine, with highlights including cruising in the Ragged Islands. He has balanced speed with comfort and is now passing along Shooting Star. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a unique catamaran!
