Najad 331 - Star of the Sea

Overview

The Najad 331 - Star of the Sea - is an excellent example of this beautifully built Swedish cruising yacht. The boat is easy to handle, both short-handed and with family crew, thanks to its deep, safe cockpit. Her wheel steering provides a wonderful feel to the helm, while the wraparound windscreen and spray-hood offer real comfort and protection at sea. Below decks, the Swedish quality is evident with beautifully finished wood and upholstery.

She is suitable for both crossing oceans and cruising the inshore waters of Great Britain and Ireland. This is a top-quality yacht that fits onto a 10m mooring!

Manufacturers Description

The Najad 331 is a modern long-distance cruiser designed for both coastal cruising and blue water sailing. It features a long waterline and a stern lifted from the water, resulting in a slim hull with a full and finer line for optimal water flow. The wide stern provides space for the cockpit and spacious aft cabin, enhancing stiffness and downwind performance. The bow is designed to part waves in rough seas. An integral swimming platform is built into the stern for comfort and safety. The keel design offers good course stability and motion at sea. The keel is long enough to be stepped on the shore, secured with additional supports. An optional shallow ballast keel can be chosen, reducing the draught to 20 cm. The keel and rudder/skeg are designed with NACA profiles to optimize water flow. The balanced rudder improves steering. The rig is fractional with a proportion of 19/20, allowing for tension in the forestay like a masthead rig while enabling mast bending like a 7/8 rig to flatten the main. The sail surface is relatively high, providing excellent tacking performance. The ballast ratio is 40 percent. Below deck, the layout is similar to many other Najad models, featuring a well-proven seaboat configuration.
