DESCRIPTION

The North Wind 405 is a high-volume, centre cockpit yacht designed by Angus Primrose and built in Spain. 'Francipam' is believed to be the only lift keel version of this model built, as specified by her first and current owner. She has beaching legs which enable her to dry out on suitable ground increasing the flexibility of this boat. 'Francipam' has been in her current ownership from new and it is time for a new owner to take her on and give her a new lease of life.

Accommodation

See plan. This version of the North Wind 435 offers six berths in three sleeping cabins plus up to three in the saloon. Full standing headroom thoughout. Teak fit out. Light blue Draylon upholstery.

Forecabin: V-berth with shelves and hanging lockers. Large deck hatch.

Forward heads: RM69 marine toilet in separate compartment with wash basin and shower. Opening deck hatch.

Saloon: The large saloon has two separate settees each with a folding/dropping table. The starboard settee is J-shaped while the port one is C-shaped creating the aft facing seat for the chart table. Two opening deck hatches and large wrap-around coachroof windows.

Chart table: Large aft facing chart table aft to port with extensive switch panel and navigation instruments.

Galley: The galley is located aft to starboard and occupies the walk through to the aft cabins. Double stainless steel galley sinks with pressurised hot and cold water supply. Foot pump cold water supply. Corbero three-burner gas stove with grill and oven. Large 12v fridge with additional cool box section. Plenty of storage in the form of shelves and drawers.

Twin aft cabin: Located aft to starboard with two bink beds and hanging locker.

Double aft cabin: Located aft to port with double berth. En suite heads with RM69 marine toilet, wash basin and separate shower compartment. Hanging lockers and drawers.

Spars and Sails

Masthead rigged sloop. Kemp silver anodised aluminium deck-stepped, double spreader mast. Silver anodised boom. Continuous stainless steel standing rigging. Terylene running rigging. Slab reefing mainsail with lazy jacks. Goiot headsail furling system. Spinnaker pole with vertical stowage on mast. "Granny bars" either side of mast. Backstay adjuster. 2 x Enkes 28 self-tailing genoa sheet winches. 2 x Enkes 26 spinnaker sheet winches. 2 x Barton G23 two speed halyard winches on mast. Antal 12 reefing winch on mast.

Mechanical Systems

Beta Marine, four-cylinder, 45hp turbocharged marine diesel engine fitted 2017. Freshwater cooled via heat exchanger. Single lever Morse controls. Shaft drive to fixed propeller. Twin fuel tanks. Approximately 270 hours since engine installed.

Sidepower bow thruster with dedicated battery.

Electrical Systems

3 x 120amp/hour 12 volt batteries plus 60amp/hour bow thruster battery, all charging from engine alternator. Batteries approximately four years old. 240 volt shore power system with Victron 30 amp battery charger (new 2017) and ring main. Full interior lighting.

Construction

Built by North Wind, Spain in 1986 to an Angus Primrose design. White painted GRP hull with blue/grey sheerline. White GRP superstructure with teak laid decks. The teak decks are original and in need of refurbishment/replacement. Cast iron ballast keel with centre-plate operated by winch handle in saloon. It is believed that Bill Dixon designed the lift keel which changes the draft from 3'9" to 6'9". Wheel steering to skeg hung rudder. Leather covered wheel. Wooden rubbing strake. Alloy toe rail. Self-draining centre cockpit.
