Historical Background

This historic motor yacht dates back to the early 20th century when many Water Municipalities existed in Friesland. A water municipality was only accessible by water, without road or rail connections. Residents relied on transport via the water network that was dug to drain the land, regulated by windmills and locks. The ditches along the farms were often narrow and shallow, and boats were adapted accordingly. Most vessels were sailing transport ships, like the well-known skutsje. For passenger transport, wooden or steel sloops were used. With the advent of the diesel engine, narrow steel boats became common. Wealthier families used specially equipped boats, known as "kerkbootje" or "notarisbootje," for church visits and receiving important guests. Gradually, water municipalities were connected to the road network, diminishing the need for the church boat. Some, like this boat, were converted into tour boats. This boat was neglected and found half-sunken in 2004. The riveted steel hull was completely stripped and rebuilt with layers of epoxy, then reconstructed to the model of the original tour boat. Everything is made with solid teak wood and includes modern facilities, such as a bow thruster, electric toilet, and clean and waste water tanks. Currently, the ship has been in storage for over a year.
