1994 Ocean Alexander 423 Vessel Walk-Through

The Classico 423 is a "trunk style" cruiser. Boarding is via the openings on either side of the vessel. Marquipt boarding stair conveys with the vessel, but is not shown in the photos. The swim platform is available for boarding if there is no tender mounted. The wide sidewalks make moving about the vessel and line handling easy. There are two access points to the top of the cabin trunk, one aft and one to starboard. The flybridge is accessible from the cabin trunk.

Sliding doors on both sides of the cabin allow access to the interior. The interior helm station is to starboard, with the galley down a few steps forward to port. The guest/day head is across from the galley. The V-berth has a privacy door, and is forward of the galley. The ensuite master stateroom is aft of the salon.

1994 Ocean Alexander 423 Accommodations

SALON

When you enter the salon on Cardinal Way you feel like you are on a classic yacht, with teak joinery and a parquet sole. An L-shape settee is to starboard with a high-low teak table; the table also turns, and is the primary dining space.  The navy blue vinyl settee has red slip covers on the seating portion. There are storage drawers under the settee. A free-standing leather recliner is to port, as is the entertainment center which features a Vizio flat-screen TV, a Blaupunkt stereo and additional storage. All of the lighting is LED, and the headliner is vinyl, with 6' 5" of headroom.

The screened windows open for ventilation and have white curtains with red tie backs, to complete the yacht décor. Doors on both sides of the salon allow easy access to the decks. The doors were removed and the rollers were replaced in 2021, so they slide easily.

The interior helm station is to starboard and features a navy blue vinyl captain's bench. A custom slide-out trash receptacle is under the bench. The teak ships wheel is an eye-catching feature. The windshield features three large windows, with sun shade covers, which allow plenty of light as well as good sightlines. The area below the windshield is padded vinyl. The same sun shades are on the side windows at the helm and galley. The electrical panel is on the side of the interior helm station.

The forward Ocean Breeze 16,000 BTU reverse cycle AC/heat was replaced in March, 2021.

The engine room access is via the salon sole and galley steps.

GALLEY

The Ocean Alexander 423 Classico features a mid-level galley design. It is forward of the salon, to port, down 3 steps with non-skid strips which lift to provide additional engine room access. The chef can still join in the conversation while in the galley.  The "glass tile" backsplash and "marble" Formica countertops were installed in February 2019, and give Cardinal Way an updated look. The appliances include: a Vitrofrigo 110/12V refrigerator/freezer (June 2010) with battery load gauges, a Master Chef wall mounted microwave (2018), and a Galley Maid 3 Burner electric stove/oven. The double stainless steel sink features a pull-out faucet.

There is abundant galley storage which includes: upper cabinets over the sink with a stemmed glass rack, pot drawers under the microwave and oven, a double cabinet under the sink, 4 drawers with a built-in cutting board, wall-mounted storage for spices, paper towels, plates, mugs, and cutlery, and a cubby over the refrigerator with a large lift out cutting board.

The galley sole is the same teak parquet throughout the vessel. The headroom in the galley is 7' 3", and the screened windows at the helm station and in the galley open for ventilation. The V-berth and guest/day head are accessible from the galley.

MASTER STATEROOM

The ensuite master stateroom on Cardinal Way is aft, down three steps from the salon. The beautiful teak joinery and parquet sole continue in this spacious stateroom which features a centerline queen-sized berth with a custom mattress (2021), and reading lights.  The headliner is vinyl with 5 LED lights and an overhead hatch to port. The headroom is 6' 6".

There is abundant storage including: drawers under the berth, night table drawers and cabinets, a wall of cabinets and drawers to starboard, and drawers and cabinets to port. There is a mirrored vanity to port; the pull out stool is not presently in use, but conveys with the vessel. Full-length cedar-lined hanging lockers are across from the berth.

The privacy door features a full-length mirror. The curtained screened windows open on both sides for ventilation. The master stateroom also features 2 stereo speakers and a 16,000 BTU Ocean Breeze reverse cycle AC/heat unit (January, 2019).

MASTER STATEROOM HEAD

Cardinal Way features an ensuite master head with a privacy door. The molded counter and sink have a one-touch faucet. The sole is teak parquet. The electric head was replaced in April, 2019. The master head also features: 2 LED lights, 3 towel bars, a large bulkhead mirror, an exhaust fan, an opening screened window, and 6' 5" headroom. The separate stall shower with a hinged frosted glass door features: a window, a light, a mounted shower head that can be hand head, 6' 4" headroom, and a shelf for toiletries. Storage in the master head includes: a sliding door cabinet behind the sink, a small drawer, a cabinet under the sink, and two wall mounted metal shelves.

V-BERTH/FORWARD GUEST STATEROOM

The guest/forward stateroom on Cardinal Way is the V-berth in the bow. The privacy door leads directly from the galley. It also features the teak joinery and parquet floor that is throughout the vessel, and 6' 6" headroom. There are two berths, one on either side; one higher/one lower, with a step-up between. Lighting is provided by an LED overhead light and two reading lights. There is an overhead hatch, 2 curtained portlights, a wired fan, 2 stereo speakers, padded vinyl bulkhead walls, and a full-length mirror.

Storage is available in the numerous drawers and cabinets, including one very large cabinet with added shelving. Access to the anchor locker is forward.

GUEST/DAY FORWARD HEAD

Cardinal Way features a second head, accessible from the galley, just outside the V-Berth. It features: an electric head with ElectroScan, a teak parquet sole, a curtained portlight, molded counter and sink with a one-touch faucet, a sea shell trimmed mirror, an exhaust fan, 2 towel bars, 2 LED lights and 6' 4" headroom. Storage is available in a drawer, a cabinet under the sink, and two wall mounted wood shelves. The separate stall shower has 6' 3" headroom, a hinged frosted glass door, a light, a mounted shower head that can be hand held and an integrated seat. A cabinet door provides access to the interior helm and electrical connections.

1994 Ocean Alexander 423 Deck and Hull

The Classico 423 has a modified semi-displacement hull which helps provide good fuel economy while ensuring performance and comfort. The balsa core technology on the hull sides above the water line, topsides and superstructure adds strength, reduces noise and vibration, and is watertight. The 1” thick, non-core fiberglass hull is hand-laid.  Cardinal Way had a complete face-lift in the Spring of 2021 where she was out of the water for 3 months. Her hull below the waterline was peeled and dried. The entire boat above the water line was repainted, including the hull, cabin, and decks, and the brightwork was refinished with multiple coats of new varnish. The stanchions of the handrail were rebidded and all fiberglass cracks were repaired. The blue hull paint (Awlcraft 2000) was done in 2018.

The swim platform had the core removed and replaced in the Spring of 2021 and features a swim boarding ladder and transom hot/cold shower. There is a ladder with 3 natural teak steps leading from the swim platform to the aft deck. There is a spacious lazarette with a gas-hinged hatch in the aft deck, with convenient stairs.  The dock water connection, as well as a wash-down is also on the aft deck. A ladder with 2 natural teak steps lead from the aft deck to the cabin trunk. One natural teak step leads from the sidewalk to the cabin trunk on the starboard side. The cabin trunk is surrounded by stainless steel hand rails, with a mounted Lifesling. A free-standing deck box is to port on the cabin trunk.

A stainless steel dinghy davit system is mounted on the aft transom. The electric winch was replaced in May, 2020. A boom for removing the tender motor is to port, along with a tender motor mount. The tender is a Zar Mini 11' RIB Hypalon tender with a Yamaha 15hp 2-stroke motor.

The foredeck on Cardinal Way features: a 55lb Vulcan anchor with 250' chain, a Super Max anchor with 150' of rode, a Maxwell 800C electric windlass, windlass foot controls, a teak burgee pole, and a deck wash down system.

1994 Ocean Alexander 423 Flybridge

The roomy flybridge on Cardinal Way is perfect for cruising or entertaining.  The hinged mast can be folded down to reduce the bridge clearance from 20' 4" to 16' 6", which makes Cardinal Way the perfect boat for the Great Loop. A custom hardtop, with full enclosure protects the entire flybridge. The front windows are EZ2CY, while the sides are Strataglass. The windscreen is smoked Plexiglas. There are fishing pole mounts on the underside of the hardtop. Solar panels, added in March, 2019 are on top of the hardtop.

There are 2 Todd white vinyl chairs for the captain and navigator. There is a Plexiglas chart table to port, and 2 dark Plexiglas double-door storage cabinets under the helm.

There are two built-in storage compartments, aft to port, with white vinyl pads that form an L and provide seating for guests. A kidney shaped painted wood table with 2 pedestal legs can be used for entertaining or as an additional dining space. The original fiberglass table also conveys with the vessel.
