There is a timeless elegance about Oyster yachts and most yachts from the 80’s and 90’s that that speaks class and comfort. ‘Song of the Phoenix’ is no exception and is a real head turner. She is a truly capable blue water cruiser and in an earlier live spent many months afloat as a research vessel for the International Fund for Animal Welfare. The Oyster 46 is ketch rigged and is capable of being crewed short-handed. Over the years she has seen many improvements including a brand new Yanmar diesel in 2021, professional respray of the topsides in 2021 and new toilets and hoses including sea cocks in 2023. The vessel is currently ashore with her masts unstepped. Her present owner is mid refit of the forward cabins where he had intended to fit a bow thruster and replace the interior fittings. This work has been halted hence the low asking price. The bowthruster is purchased and is on board. This cost in excess of 8K.
Vessel is powered by a 2021 installed Yanmar 4JH11Xi inboard diesel engine. The engine is hosed mid ships beneath the upper saloon floor. All the boards are removable allowing easy access. Reduction gearbox driving stainless steel shaft and three bladed bronze propeller. The propeller shaft is fully protected by a fiberglass moulding. Engine start panel; mounted in cockpit. Engine serviced in 2023 before coming North.
12/24/240V systems on board. There is a single dedicated engine start battery – New 2024 and two domestic banks. Bank 1 has 2x12V batteries whilst bank 2 has 4x12V batteries. There is AC power located in the galley area.
Ketch rigged yacht with keel stepped twin spreader main mast and deck stepped, single spreader mizzen mast. Aluminium masts and booms. Stainless steel standing rigging (Age unknown) with braid on braid running rigging. Roller furling headsail and slab reefing main and mizzen sails. Lewmar 55ST primary winches.
Sails include:
As previously mentioned, the vessel is mid refit. The forward part of the boat is currently uninhabitable due to the removal of the fore cabin to install the bow thruster (ON BOARD READY TO INSTALL), and the forward mid-ships cabin is currently being used to store tools and equipment. The forward heads is operational and indeed has new pipework and sea cocks.
The deck saloon has a horseshoe seating area to starboard with a central table with hexagonal top. The table has a central bottle storage. The upholstery is in good order.
Opposite the seating area is the chart table/navigation area with marine monitor, VHF radio and GPS. Chart storage and movable chart seat.
Moving aft on the starboard side is the aft mid-ships cabin with two good sized bunks, dressing table and storage. There is an escape hatch to the cockpit.
On the portside mid-ships is the galley with stainless steel sink, pressurised water and great storage. There is a gas fuelled 4-burner hob with oven and grill and a top loading fridge. There is a further top loading coolbox.
Moving aft past the galley is the owners suite. Here you will find a large double berth with dressing table and seat opposite, huge cupboard and hanging space and a ensuite heads with sea toilet and shower.
GRP constructed yacht built by Oyster Yachts to a Holman and Pye design. There were several internal layouts to choose from, but each one offered was built round the ability to travel far and wide. This boat is a comfortable and capable vessel built to endure and enjoy what Mother Nature can throw at her.
1.98M encapsulated fin keel with skeg mounted rudder. The underwater areas were epoxy treated by HYS in 2012 and have subsequently been coated in Hempel Sillic One coatings. Her topsides are in superb condition having been professionally sprayed in 2021. On deck the walkways are covered in ‘Tek-Dek’. Forward is an electric windlass with chain locker. Stainless steel stem head fitting with double roller.
Raised saloon with forward and side facing windows. Grab rails either side of coach roof. Bow and stern rails conjoined by stainless steel stanchions and double set guard wires. There are access gates mid ships both sides and at transom. Inward sloping transom with stainless steel access ladder. Deep cockpit with drains outboard. Central storage area in cockpit sole. Rope locker to port and to starboard, access to midships cabin.
Binnacle mounted wheel steering.
