History

The EH6 was originally built in 1934 in Lemmer as a milkschouw, transporting milk from the pasture in Friesland to the milk factory. The ship is narrow (3m) for its length (9.3m) to fit through small bridges and locks. The hull was built by eye, without any construction plan, resulting in no two pieces being the same (BB vs. SB). Later, the ship served as a fishing vessel in Urk and then in Enkhuizen, hence the name. During the war, the ship was submerged and rediscovered in the 1950s. The hull was found to be in good condition and was converted into a sailing yacht with a cabin in 1957. In the 1960s, parts of the interior from the Dutch minesweeper "the Badjang" were incorporated into the EH6.
