54’ IOR, construit en alliage léger aux chantiers Pouvreau en 1980, cette première grande unité de course au large créée pour Alain Gabbay et dessinée par Gilles Vaton s’est imposée comme la plus en avance de sa génération. Il frôle la victoire dans la Whitbread 1981/82, avec une 2e place au général derrière le maxi Flyer II.
Pouvreau Charles Heidsieck 3
54’ IOR, built in lightweight alloy at the Pouvreau shipyards in 1980, this first large offshore racing unit created for Alain Gabbay and designed by Gilles Vaton proved to be the most advanced of its generation. It narrowly missed victory in the 1981/82 Whitbread, finishing 2nd overall behind the maxi Flyer II. It then secured 3rd place in the SORC, won the 1983 EDHEC, the Quebec-Lorient Transat in the monohull category, and the 1986 Nioulargue in IOR. Second in the La Rochelle-Quebec Transat, it was later converted into a large cruising unit and continues to participate in some regattas to this day.
Now, it is a magnificent, perfectly maintained race-cruiser sailboat ready for a family world tour. New rigging in 2023, mainsail, and asymmetric spinnaker with sock in 2023, genoa, and staysail in 2023.
