The Prout 46 is a well designed, well maintained luxury Catamaran that has been fitted and equipped by the owners for round-the-world sailing. The Prout 46 is designed to be a responsive coastal or blue water cruiser built to the normal high quality standards of Prout Catamarans.
The boat on offer has the optional Open Plan Layout, i.e. the Owners Version interior, as slightly adapted to the present owners' wishes, i.e., 2 aft state rooms, large owner bath with separate shower, guest heads/shower combination, custom made cabinets and cupboard, bunk bed cabin starboard forwards, and separate cabin for tools and spare parts. Outside: custom-made hard top with sides in cockpit plus bimini aft of hard top. In addition, the boat has a "winter garden" that provides dry and cozy conditions in nasty weather at anchor or in the marina. She fully meets European Union boatbuilding standards and has a EC Certificate confirming that she was built to the highest level of the European Recreational Craft Directive, Category A (Ocean), hand built to ISO 9001 Design and Build Quality Assurance, using Lloyds approved materials.
Both one-piece hull and deck mouldings are hand laid using powder bound mat and Isopthalic resins to the Scott Bader system. Biaxial and unidirectional cloth was used, with Kevlar reinforcement in high load areas. Below the waterline, the hulls are solid laminate. Above this the hull and deck incorporate end grain balsa core. The structural bulkheads are of vacuum bagged foam sandwich, saving considerable weight, allowing a large number of full and half bulkheads to be incorporated into the design making the Prout 46 extremely safe and strong without compromising performance. The deck has an integrally moulded non–slip finish. Rudders are skeg hung on stainless steel stocks with self-lubricating bearings. The steering system is hydraulic with the rudders linked together by a cross-link beam. The starboard rudder has an access cover above and is designed to accept an emergency tiller. The critical hull and deck join is fully bonded and protected by a substantial rubbing strake; it does not rely on bolts that can be prone to leaks. The Prout 46 is virtually unsinkable due to its watertight bulkheads and buoyancy compartments fore and aft. High volume hulls with minimum draught wing keels provide stability and a comfortable motion in the most confused seas. The keels are integrally moulded and sealed off from the hulls forming a double bottom. Antifouling paint. The Prout 46 sails well on all points of sailing, even loaded for cruising. The in-mast furling main sail is aimed at facilitating the use of sails even for less experienced or strong sailors. Mainsail and genoa winches are electric winches (for easier handling as husband-wife team). All sails can be handled from inside cockpit - an absolute safety feature and great comfort in rough conditions. The Prout 46 is designed for the cruising couple who desires extra comfort and generous storage aboard. The galley and saloon are very spacious (standing room throughout the boat). The hard top with glass windows in front and on top as well as attachable plastic windows on the sides provides excellent protection for the helmsman from waves, rain and heat and creates a dry, smooth, seakindly ride for everybody in the cockpit.
The boat has been equipped with twin 41 KW / 55 PS/hp Volvo Penta saildrive engines (instead of the standard 30 hp Yanmar engines), giving her extra power for potentially critical situations.
The end result is a beautiful boat that delivers comfort and safety at sea.
The boat never had any serious damage, only the usual wear and tear (she has only been sailed by the owners, in Europe only. Service and maintenance work has been carried out on a regular basis). She is currently located on the island of Evvia in Greece.
