Fishing, family, and fun is how Robalo describes the goal of their boats, and since 1969 they have delivered on that promise with their outboard sportfishing and bay boats. The Robalo brand has long been renowned for its mid-sized, mid-budget, high-performing fishing and leisure center console, dual console, and bay boats. Today it operates out of its enormous facility in Nashville, Tennessee under parent company Marine Products Corporation—which also has other well-known brands such as
Robalo has long prided itself on its hand-built vessels, and virtually every part of its boats are built on-site, from the hardtops to the storage compartment lids, doors, interior fixings, and the hand-laid fiberglass (Robalo has been wood-free in their construction since 2006).
Design-wise, Robalo Boats has a twin focus on fishing and family, and each component is considered to make them practical, easy, and comfortable. From the forward entry head compartments with extra wide doors, to the HydroLift hull design providing a dry, smooth ride, and the livewells that double as coolers, every part of the boat is honed for family fishing expeditions. In addition, the brand focuses on increased comfort in all sea conditions, with precise cornering, a dry ride thanks to high freeboard, fuel efficiency, and stability at low or high speeds.
With such a long history of manufacturing, there are many models in the brand’s legacy. Its huge success over the years means that it’s well-represented on the used market, and in addition the company maintains a large inventory of new boats for sale too.
Used models of Robalo Boats include its Center Console, Walkaround, and Dual Console series, which range in size from 20 to 30 feet. In 2014 and 2015, we saw the launch of the R-Series of center consoles and Cayman Bay Boats series, predecessors of their current line-up, plus the evolution of their earlier center consoles and bay boats. While many used models tend to be from the 2000s and onwards, there is still a good number of the compact center console Robalo models from the 1980s and ‘90s on the market, testament to their strong build-quality.
Today the Robalo line-up comprises four ranges, led by the center console R-Series, which has eight models between 18 and 36 feet. The Explorer Center Console range is represented by three models, while its popular Cayman Bay Boats offers six models between 20 and 26 feet. Lastly, Robalo has the Dual Console range consisting of the R207 and R317.
The center console models are prime fishing machines, with the smaller of the range (R180 to R230) offering a compact, trailerable version, while the larger models (R250 to R360) bring in true offshore capabilities. Packed with fishing amenities, as well as complete consideration for families aboard, they come in iconic hues of blue color choices and have an expansive glass-windshield hard top. Each one is customizable, and always has been, so whether looking to buy new or used be sure to check the specification list as you’ll find wide variations from model to model.
What Robalo boat models are popular?
The R222 Center Console, which is still in production, is well-loved for its abundance of fishing and comfort features, its seaworthiness, and its appealing price tag (both new and used), offering good value for money. The 246 Cayman, a capable bay boat that remains in production is one of the brand’s most popular models, offering the trailerability of a compact model with the robustness of their larger models.
Why should I buy a Robalo boat?
Robalo Boats offer a unique versatility not often seen in offshore fishing boats, with a strong emphasis on family comforts as well as serious bluewater angling. If you’re looking for a wide, spacious boat with a soft ride, good speed, and a suite of features as well as huge customization possibilities, then Robalo’s range of center and dual consoles (as well as rugged bay boats) should be on your radar.
